Being frank ,direct and outspoken was viewed as a mental disability and ponted out to me at times. I am not sure whethe this trait would assist in professional life. Conveying difficult matters in a palatable manner is the norm today.
As a temporary SOP softpedalling will work.. The management theories of the day profess temporary conflict resolution and bonhomie for the present moment.. and just push the future under the carpet.. This is the attitude in almost all transactions.. Most people have a retiring age, and they just push the problem which was minor when they were party to it but which they nurtured to elephantine proportions through sheer inaction, indifference and timidity to the successor, who too locks up the problem in the recesses of a dark cupboard allowing it to grow further.. Ultimately many problems grow, flower, give fruits and poison the system to death and destruction
Even in National and International Politics we see many such propensities.. I think we know and understand about such situation even without naming the specific issues in any plane of action..
I think Dale Carnegie and Napoleon Hill and Peale are professed such soft pedalling and sold millions of books and earned real huge cash.. Many glib writers and management pundits followed suit.. Of course they cornered glory and swelled their pockets to the brim.. but the solid, petrified problems are just waiting to pounce upon us..
Is this the way to resolve conflicts?
I was a bureaucrat for forty long years.. and I too was playing this game of dilly dally all the time, but I want to be candid and realistic at least now..
