हीनाश्रयो न कर्तव्यः कर्तव्यो महदाश्रयः ।

ईशाश्रयात् महानागः पप्रच्छ गरुडं सुखम् ॥

hīnāśrayo na kartavyaḥ kartavyo mahadāśrayaḥ ।

īśāśrayāt mahānāgaḥ papraccha garuḍaṃ sukham ॥

One should never keep close company or be in the service of a lowly powerless person. The company of the strong one should be pursued.

വിവരമുള്ള ഒരു വ്യക്തി ഒരിക്കലും നിലവാരം കുറഞ്ഞ, ശക്തിയും പിടിപാടും കുറഞ്ഞ ആളുകളുടെയടുക്കല്‍ ആശ്രിതനായോ ജോലിക്കാരനോ ആയി ചേരരുത്. ശക്തരുടെ കൂടെ കൂട്ടുകൂടാന്‍ എപ്പോഴും ശ്രമിക്കണം.

ഏറെ ദുര്‍ബലനായ ഒരു വ്യക്തി പോലും ശക്തിയും പിടിപാടും എല്ലാം ഉള്ള വ്യക്തിയുടെ കീഴില്‍ ജോലിചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ അത് അയാള്‍ക്ക് ഉയര്‍ന്ന ഒരു സ്ഥാനം നല്‍കും. സാധാരണ ഗതിയില്‍ ഒരു സര്‍പ്പം ഗരുഡനെ കണ്ടാല്‍ ജീവനും കൊണ്ട് ഓടിയോളിക്കും. പക്ഷെ അതുപോലുള്ള ഒരു സര്‍പ്പം സാക്ഷാല്‍ ശിവന്‍റെ കഴുത്തില്‍ ചുറ്റിക്കിടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അതിനു ഗരുഡനെ ഒട്ടും ഭയമില്ല. അവിടെ ഇരുന്നു കൊണ്ട് “ഗരുഡന്‍ മൂപ്പരെ സുഖം തന്നെ ആണോ “ എന്ന് കുശലം ചോദിക്കാന്‍ പോലും അപ്പോള്‍ ആ സര്‍പ്പം ധൈര്യം കാണിക്കും.
