अप्रार्थितानि दुःखानि यथैवायान्ति देहिनाम्।
सुखान्यपि तथा मन्ये दैन्यमत्रतिरिच्यते॥
सुभाषितसुधानिधि॥
aprārthitāni duḥkhāni yathaivāyanti dehinām|
sukhānyapi tathā manye dainyamat
Another thought worthy of consideration in depth
Just as sorrows and tribulations visit us, the living beings who possess the mortal bodies, without our request and without any warning, fortunes and comforts also come to us in the same manner.
Nevertheless, we think, and wail about the fall in fortunes but never really think about the blessings that come to us at random.
Yes, our mind seems to be just pleasure loving. In addition when things are comfortable, we presume that such state is permanent, and simply take it for granted.
When there is even some minor deviation from that unstable equilibrium of apparent safety and comfort we start getting nervous.
If we can take fortunes unsolicited, we should take misfortune too that way.
Remember, whether we welcome them or not, fortunes and misfortunes do visit us unexpectedly.
