not better than that of mere senseless animals

गच्छतस्तिष्ठतो वापि जाग्रतः स्वपतोऽपि न ।

फलं भूतहितार्थाय तत्पशोरिव चेष्टितम् ॥१३९॥

सारसमुच्चये

gacchatastiṣṭhato vāpi jāgrataḥ svapato'pi na ।

phalaṃ bhūtahitārthāya tatpaśoriva ceṣṭitam ॥139॥

sārasamuccaye

If the actions and activities of a person while he is on the move, while he is standing, while he is awake, while he is asleep are all not directed towards the welfare of all created beings, then such activities and his life too are not better than that of mere senseless animals.

गच्छतःone who is moving, while one is moving तिष्ठतः one who is standing, while one is standing जाग्रतः one who is awake, while one is awake स्वपतः one who is sleeping and dreaming, while one is sleeping and dreaming अपि also वा eitherफलं the result भूतहितार्थाय for the positive advantage, positive benefit of all beings न not चेत् if तत् that चेष्टितं activity, deed पशोः of a brutal animal, of a senseless animal इव एव only like

ഗച്ഛതസ്തിഷ്ഠതോ വാപി ജാഗ്രതഃ സ്വപതോഽപി ന ।

ഫലം ഭൂതഹിതാര്‍ഥായ തത്പശോരിവ ചേഷ്ടിതം ॥൧൩൯॥

സാരസമുച്ചയേ

ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്‍ നടന്നു കൊണ്ടും, നിന്നുകൊണ്ടും, ഉണര്‍ന്നിരുന്നുകൊണ്ടും ഉറങ്ങുമ്പോഴും എല്ലാം ചെയ്യുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങള്‍, ചെയ്യാന്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ , എല്ലാ ജീവികളുടെയും നന്മയ്ക്കും സന്തോഷത്തിനും വേണ്ടി ഉള്ളവ അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ അത്തരം ചിന്തകളും കാര്യങ്ങളും ഒരു വിവേകവും വിവരവും സംസ്കാരവും ഇല്ലാത്ത മൃഗങ്ങളുടെ ചെയ്തികളില്‍ നിന്ന് ഒട്ടും വ്യത്യസ്തങ്ങള്‍ അല്ല.
