नारुन्दुदः स्यान्न नृशंसवादी न हीनतः परमभ्याददीत।
ययाश्च वाचा पर उद्विजेत न तां वदेद्रुषतीं पापलोक्याम्॥
महाभारते शान्तिपर्वनि हम्सगीतायाम्
nārundudaḥ syānna nṛśaṁsavādī na hīnataḥ paramabhyādadīta|
yayāśca vācā para udvijeta na tāṁ vadedruṣatīṁ pāpalokyām||
mahābhārate śāntiparvani hamsagītāyām
One should never speak words that are so sharp and cutting that it would seem that they pierce the vital organs of the listener
One should never speak words loaded with extreme cruelty
One should not accept the words or take lessons from a person who is fallen with moral turpitude
One should never speak words that would unsettle the listeners, cause shock to the listeners
One should never utter words filled with anger, nor should he utter words that would instigate extreme anger in others.
One should never speak words that would lead either the speaker or the listener to the worlds that are reserved for sinners alone

अरुन्दुदः piercing the vital parts or organs, giving pain न स्यात् one should never be नृशंसवादी speaking, uttering extremely cruel words न स्यात् one should never be परं हीनतः from an extremely fallen person न अभ्याददीत should not learn lessons
यया वाचा by which words परः others उद्विजेत get adversely affected, get shocked, upset, uncomfortable रुषतीं filled with anger, generating anger पापलोक्यां that would send one to the world fit for sinner तां न वदेत् one should never tell

കേള്ക്കുന്നവരുടെ മര്മ്മങ്ങളില് തുളച്ചുകയറി ആഴമേറിയ മുറിവുകള് സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു വേദന മാത്രം സമ്മാനിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകള് ഒരിക്കലും ഉച്ചരിക്കരുത്
ക്രൂരത മാത്രം നിറഞ്ഞു നില്ക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകള് ഒഴിവാക്കണം
ധാര്മ്മികമായും സാന്മാര്ഗ്ഗികമായും അധഃപതിച്ച വ്യക്തികളുടെ വാക്കുകള് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നതും അവരില് നിന്ന് ഉപദേശങ്ങളും പാഠങ്ങളും നേടുന്നതും ശരിയല്ല
മറ്റുള്ളവരില് അളവറ്റ ആകാംക്ഷ ജനിപ്പിക്കുകയും അവരുടെ സന്തുലനാവസ്ഥ ഇല്ലാതാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന വാക്കുകള് പറയുന്നത് കഴിവതും വേണ്ടെന്നു വയ്ക്കുക
ക്രോധം നിറച്ചു വച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകള് പറയരുത്. മറ്റുള്ളവരില് നിയന്ത്രണാതീതമായി ദേഷ്യം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയേക്കാവുന്ന വാക്കുകള് വളരെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു മാത്രം പ്രയോഗിക്കുക
പറയുന്നവനേയും കേള്ക്കുന്നവനെയും പാപികല്ക്കായി മാത്രം സംവരണം ചെയ്തു വച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നരകലോകത്തില് എത്തിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകള് ഒരിക്കലും പറയരുത്, ഉപയോഗിക്കരുത്.മഹാഭാരതം ശാന്തി പര്വ്വം ഹംസ ഗീത.
ചിലര് ഇത് ഭര്തൃഹരി വചനമായി ഉദ്ധരിക്കുന്നു.
