The Samavedam.. Agneya Kandam starts with an address to fire.. The above mantram Agna aayaahi.. is considered the first mantram of Samavedam.. ( in fact it can be found in the sixth mandalam of rigvedam too.. but then most of the mantrams in Samavedam are variants and musical renditions of the mantrams in Rigvedam. )
The Supreme being is invoked by Samaveda as being manifest in the Shape of Fire..
He is addressed with great respect,
============
"Oh Fire, may you please visit this place were yajna is being conducted.
May you visit here to partake in the offerings we make during the sacrifice.
May you please be present to receive havyams offered to you as well as to all deities.
You are invoked here as the hota.. the reciever of all honours and offerings in the yajna
May you be comfortable present in the burning flames and embers raised in the holy altar of fire.."
============
The Rigvedam Starts with Agnimeele purohitam
The Yajurvedam Starts with Ishetvaa Oorjetva..
I have already explained these mantrams for a general understanding..
