Why do.we utter Shiva Shiva when we come to know something so painful.or unfortunate?
( the query from a respected friend)
My thoughts on it. I may be right or even may be off the mark
"We can chant "krishna krishna "or "narayana narayana " too.
In the North when the worst happens they sing in chorus.. ram naam sach hai...the name of rama alone is true.
You know..the taraka namam Rama is actually the combination of raa.. from नारायणाय narayanaaya and ma from नमःशिवाय । namah shivaaya
The idea ultimately is that when things have gone beyond our control only God ..Shiva or Narayana is there and they would be there for us anyway.
अपवित्रः पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतोऽपि यस्मरेत् पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाह्य आभ्यन्तरश्शुचिः ।
Meaning..
Whether clean or unclean mentally or physically or whether he is a state where realization of any state is gone if a person remembers Pundareekaksha that divine being with Lotus eyes he becomes pure within and ouside immediately
Shiva is the word representing peace and tranquillity
He is the ultimate Sadaashiva.
.the Adiyogi.
Nothing above that Being.
