तृणपर्णोदकाहाराः सततं वनवासिनः ।
जंबूकाखुमृगाद्यश्च तापसास्ते भवन्ति किम् ॥

tṛṇaparṇodakāhārāḥ satataṃ vanavāsinaḥ ।
jaṃbūkākhumṛgādyaśca tāpasāste bhavanti kim ॥

The foxes, rats, deer and animals like them stay in the forest most of the time . They survive eating mostly leaves, grass and water too. Can they be called saints and recluses for this reason?
Action, fully understanding the spirit of what one does reveal the character and class of a person. Mere imitation would not serve any purpose.
തൃണപര്ണോദകാഹാരാഃ സതതം വനവാസിനഃ ।
ജംബൂകാഖുമൃഗാദ്യശ്ച താപസാസ്തേ ഭവന്തി കിം ॥

കുറുനരിയും എലിയും മാനും അതുപോലുള്ള മൃഗങ്ങളും മിക്കവാറും എല്ലാ കാലങ്ങളിലും കാട്ടില് താമസിക്കുന്നു. ഇലകളും പുല്ലും കാട്ടിലെ ചോലകളിലെ വെള്ളവും കൊണ്ട് അവ വിശപ്പടക്കുന്നു. ഇക്കാരണം കൊണ്ട് അവയെല്ലാം സന്ന്യാസിമാരും താപസന്മാരും ആണെന്ന് പറയാന് കഴിയുമോ.ഒരു പ്രവൃത്തി അതിന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശവും അന്തഃസത്തയും മനസ്സിലാക്കി അതിന്റെ വഴിയില് ചെയ്യുമ്പോള് അത് ചെയ്യുന്ന വ്യക്തിയുടെ നിലയും വിലയും പ്രകടമാവും. അന്ധമായ അനുകരണവും ആര്ക്കാനും വേണ്ടി ഓക്കാനിക്കുന്നതും കൊണ്ട് ഒന്നും നേടാനില്ല
