Formation of Compounds as per Indian Vedantic thoughts.
Pancheekaranam
We call the process of combining the five basic elements in various proportions to produce raw materials to form the gross bodies and objects as pancheekaranam.
If nature uses only one of the elements like earth, water, heat, air or ether it cannot maintain the variety in creation.
Therefore, at first, it divides each gross element prithvi ap teja vayu and akasha into two equal halves.
It sets apart one half is. In addition, it further divides the other half into four equal parts
Then to the half say Prithvi, it adds one eighth of ap one eighth of teja one eighth of vayu and one eighth of akasha.
It does the same done with ap where it adds one eighth of prithvi teja vayu and akasha are added.
It repeats the same for full halves teja vayu and akasha too.
Thus, we have elements and their intrinsic qualities like touch taste etc in different combinations.
We can see something parallel in formation of compounds in modern chemistry.
This is pancheekaranam as explained in various vedantic texts
