The traditional Hindu belief somehow is that life has four parts-brahmacharyam, garhastyam, Vanaprastham, and sannyaasam. Brahmacharyam-the early youth is to equip and train oneself and perhaps to aim and dream too- garhastyam,to plan, dream further and implement and find contentment too-Vanaprastham, to adjourn to simple essential need-based life, controlling the yearning of the body and developing more equanimity and equipping for departure-and Sannyaasam, where a person has given up all in life, and lives as ifhe is not in this world.
This is a unique prescription of Indian philosophy- and the traditional way of life..
We have stretched and given up the ideas too. And there may be an exception, who discoveres himself even after being a recluse and there are episodes of return from Sannyasa or Vanaprasta to Grihasta ashramam and so on.
Of course, there is no bar in dreaming and dying while dreaming too
Maybe my ideas as influenced by the traditions.
