The challenges and conflicts we can encounter when we attempt for the communion of various systems of beliefs and religions are complex and manifold. The synthesis requires thorough knowledge and understanding of the divergent systems..and efficiency in conflict resolution too. The practice in each system worked on the rules and conventions that evolved through ages and also the faith that the devotees reposed on such rules. It may be far easier to device or synthesize modalities for the communionsor admixture of the systems but to build up faith in the new system is a daunting task. If one can develop both infrastructure , foster faith too and demonstrate at least a little bit that the new hybrid would work, then that synthesis would be acceptable. Even upanishadic deviations, semi sannyasic systems like Vaikhanasam , Bhakti cult, Bhagavatha cult, Agamic and Tantric cults etc., evolved and developed only in this manner as alternates to the Vedic practices.
To say there can be variants is easy but to establish convincingly the effectiveness of the variants as against traditional systems is a great challenge.
You are not under great compulsion to deal with elaboration the trodden path because all people around know about it at least a little. But if new paths are built ,their utility will have to be established at every step
Many alternate systems fail to pass the muster on this count.
