In a peace-loving society, people have to try their level best to accommodate and adjust, as a matter of mutual benefit.
But at the same time, the very idea that we should try to please somebody even when we have no benefit out of such action is an artificial creation of some clever and manipulative and selfish minds..
The emotional sabotage practiced by some who are physically and emotionally weak, their all-out attempt to play on the finer emotions of the stronger ones-on their finer emotions like sympathy- is indeed a ploy..
Other living beings like plants and animals usually show concern to one another only based on mutual benefits.
However, we humans create artificial codes of conduct.
I do not say that we should have a laissez-faire or free for all, with victory assured only for the strong. At the same time, I do not believe that we should suppress our own feelings and genuine instincts just to please others.
The manipulators usually take advantage of the soft nature of some strong persons, and if the strong persons permit others to exploit them, I can just say they are being foolish.
Of course, the philosophy can have a different dimension if I am weak. I would have to sing, dance, and please others just for my survival. I will not blame the weaker person for that.
Nevertheless, to act as very polite, kind, generous etc, when one had no real intention or inclination to be so is IMHO futile and unwarranted.
Calling a spade a spade, instead of calling it a garland of fragrant flowers is the best policy.
Interests of each individual is in some way or other in some conflict with any other individual.
So being accommodative and sacrificing personal interests without adequate recompense is simply foolhardy.
Personally, I never go out of the way to please anyone.
