One cannot have a feast of desserts only.

A quote from the celebrated mrutchakatiakam of poet Shuudraka
sukham hi dukhaanyanubhuuya shobhate ghanaandhakaareshviva deepa dharsanam sukhaattu yo yaati naro daridhrataam, dhritaH sareerena mrutaH sa jeevathi...
Without knowing what sorrow is, and without suffering the pangs of sorrow, one cannot enjoy the pleasures in full.
It is like seeing and enjoying the glow of the bright wick of a lamp when there is pitch darkness around.
(In the open sunlight, the wick of a lamp would make practically no impact)

However, when a person , when he is used to all pleasures, suddenly faces poverty and sorrow, will have his life for biological purposes alone, but the body will hold on to life but would dead in spirits.

In this backdrop, some dosage of Sorrow is necessary and perhaps beneficial too..

However the blessed lord Said in Gita
सुखदुःखे समे कृत्वा लाभालाभौ जयाजयौ।
ततो युद्धाय युज्यस्व नैवं पापमवाप्स्यसि॥२-३८॥
sukha duHke same kritwa laabhaalaabhau jayajayau
tato yudhdhaaya jujyaswa naivam paapam avaapsyasi.. gits chapter 2 --37..
You go ahead with the war of life treating both pleasure and pain equally..
Then no sin will affect you,  (Arjuna)

Here the blessed lord talks about detachment.

Kalidasa said once  "KlesaH phalena hi punarnavataam vidathe..
क्लेशः फलेन हि पुनर्नवतां विधत्ते (KumaraSambhavam)"
A person’s incessant toil, when rewarded with pleasurable results, equips him with more verve for further action.

Ultimately, every coin has two sides, every magnet has two poles, and opposing emotions complement each other.

One cannot have a feast of desserts only.
