If one has grown up without at least one grandparent then he is just a waste.
My maternal thatha was my childhood idol.
I know he learnt Hindi and Sanskrit after crossing 60 years.
Children of the agraharam would just sit around him while he would sit in an old easy chair and teach them.
For no money no fees.
He was called vaithukutty saar.
By agraharam standards he was not clever or leadership material.
But he taught silently.
He must have been 65 years when I was born..
He was one who made me believe that we should read read and read..acquire more and more knowledge.
And I am sure his mission was successful.
His children grandchildren and great grandchildren have succeeded and made their niche across the globe.
Letters of love.. and love for letters..
That is the legacy he left.
