कुराजान्तानि राष्ट्राणि कुकर्मान्तं यशो नृणाम्॥

Once there is a breach in the fence, however well it is mended later, the area of fracture would persist.. and might cause distress too.

So relations should be guarded with very soft affection and care.

Meaning of the slokam from Samayochitapadyamalika

A combined and harmonious household, with common hearth or fireplace would be in place only till the first quarrel.

A close friendship would survive only till there is no exchange of words of insult or acrimony

A nation would be in its peaceful, healthy and prosperous existence only till there is a good ruler or a king

And

The fame and popularity of a ruler would be in place only till he commits the first bad deed or the first policy fiasco.

Of course, life has to go on even after quarrels, bad words, and a country should survive even if there is a bad ruler and ad bad decision maker..

But the best alternative then would be to end quarrels and accommodate, and to control the tongues..
