This slokam is attributed to Mahabharatham, as quoted in Subhaashita ratna bhaandaagara and Sharngadhara paddhati.

May you give birth to sons who and endowed with luck in plenty.. They need not be valourous or learned. See, Pandavas are very powerful and full of vigour. They are very learned in all possible arts and sciences too. In spite of all that they are now languishing in the forest.
Yes, even the learned and powerful Pandavas had to adjourn to forest when luck failed them.
Here Kunti does not mean that the sons should not be strong and learned. She only indicates that all their strength and knowledge would be of any use only if luck too favours them..

മുകളില് കൊടുത്ത ശ്ലോകം മഹാഭാരതത്തില് ഉള്ളതായി സുഭാഷിത രത്ന ഭാണ്ഡാഗാരം ശാര്ന്ഗധര പദ്ധതി എന്നീ കൃതികളില് കാണുന്നു.
പാണ്ഡവരുടെ മാതാവായ കുന്തീദേവി തന്റെ മരുമകളായ ദ്രൌപദിയെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുകയാണ്.
നീ ഏറെ ഭാഗ്യമുള്ള മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കുക. അവര് ശൂരനോ പണ്ഡിതനോ ആവണം എന്നില്ല. നോക്കൂ ഏറെ ധീരന്മാരും എല്ലാ അറിവുകളും നേടിയവരും ആയ പാണ്ഡവന്മാര് കാട്ടില് അലഞ്ഞു തിരിയുന്നു.
ശരിയാണ്. ഏറെ ശക്തരും അറിവുള്ളവരും ആയ പാണ്ഡവന്മാര്ക്ക് ഭാഗ്യം ചതിച്ചപ്പോള് നാടുവിട്ട് കാട്ടില് താമസിക്കേണ്ട ഗതികേട് വന്നു ചേര്ന്നു.
ഇവിടെ കുന്തി പറയാന് ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചത് ജനിക്കുന്ന മക്കള് ധീരതയും പഠിപ്പും ഉള്ളവര് ആവേണ്ട ആവശ്യം ഇല്ല എന്നൊന്നും അല്ല.
പക്ഷെ എത്രയധികം കരുത്തും അറിവും എല്ലാം ഉണ്ടായാലും ഭാഗ്യം ഇല്ലെങ്കില് ഒരാള്ക്ക് അതുകൊണ്ടൊന്നും ഒരു പ്രയോജനവും ഉണ്ടാവുകയില്ല എന്നാണു കുന്തീദേവി സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.
