the geography as we see in the Mahasankalpam for Important religious functions..

The geography is not that clear with reference to recent names of cities and towns in India... It is said that Bharatha Varsha is one among nine Varshas or lands or countries ruled by a king.. others being indra kaseru tamra gabasti naka saumya gandarva charana in addition to our bharatha (bharatavarsha is one out of the nine in the group)

Tt is south of Ilavritha and Harikimpurusha Varsha,

and also south of mountains Himalaya, Mahameru, Nishada and hemakuta ranges..

So Bharatha Varsha is just India in our Sankalpam. Perhaps might Include Burma Siam, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan too,( Simhala is taken as another dweepa)

The seven Dweepaas.. Jamboo plaksha saaka

saalmalee kusha karuncha and Pushkara are mentioned.. and Bharatha Varsham is in Jamboodweepam..

It is not known whether Australia and America and Antartica etc were known to our ancestors when the geography was defined in texts like Mahabharatham, Agni, Devi puranams.. not to talk of Vedas.the Eurasia Continent was known).

So the island or continent concepts of present day geography were not the same as those we depend on for chanting our sankalpam based on puranas... But the purpose of the Sankalpa is not going to be defeated even if we mention the name of the Agraharam, city, village, country or continent as they are known today..
