अन्यान् परिवदन् साधुः यथा हि परितप्यते।
तथा परिवदन्नन्यान् तुष्टो भवति दुर्जनः।
महाभारते १-५४-९२
anyān parivadan sādhuḥ yathā hi paritapyate|
tathā parivadannanyān tuṣṭo bhavati durjanaḥ|
mahābhārate 1-54-92
This is the difference between a noble friendly soul and an evil minded wretch. The noble person feels utterly miserable if he is in a situation where he has to criticise, abuse or use bad words against others. However, an evil minded fellow finds extra happiness in lashing out with his tongue accusing, abusing and foul mouthing others.
यथा in the same way and to the same extent साधुः noble person अन्यान् others परिवदन् talking against, criticizing, using unfavourable words, accusing, abusing परितप्यते feel miserable तथा in the same manner अन्यान् others परिवदन् reviling, finding fault दुर्जनः evil minded person तुष्टो भवति becomes supremely happy.
അന്യാന് പരിവദന് സാധുഃ യഥാ ഹി പരിതപ്യതേ।
തഥാ പരിവദന്നന്യാന് തുഷ്ടോ ഭവതി ദുര്ജനഃ।
മഹാഭാരതേ ൧-൫൪-൯൨
ഒരു സാത്വികനായ സഹൃദയനും ഒരു ദുഷ്ടനും തമ്മിലുള്ള ആത്യന്തികമായ വ്യത്യാസം ഇതാണ്.
നല്ല മനുഷ്യന് ഏതെങ്കിലും കാരണം കൊണ്ട് മറ്റുള്ളവരെ വിമര്ശിക്കുവാനോ ആര്ക്കെങ്കിലും എതിരായി ചീത്തയോ കടുപ്പമേറിയതോ ആയ വാക്കുകള് ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്ട സാഹചര്യം നേരിടുകയാണെങ്കില് അതില് ഏറെ പരിതപിക്കുന്നു.
പക്ഷെ ദുഷ്ടനാവട്ടെ ആരെക്കുറിച്ചെങ്കിലും അപവാദം പറയാനോ ആരെയെങ്കിലും തെറി വിളിക്കാനോ അവസരം കിട്ടുകയാണെങ്കില് അയാള് അതില് അങ്ങേയറ്റം വികൃതമായ ആനന്ദം അനുഭവിക്കുന്നു.
