जन्मान्तरशताभ्यस्ता विषयेषु मतिर्नृणाम्।
जरद्गौरिव सस्येषु दुःखेन विनिवार्यते॥

janmāntaraśatābhyastā viṣayeṣu matirnṛṇām|
jaradgauriva sasyeṣu duḥkhena vinivāryate||

The desire towards sensual pleasures bordering on obsession acquired by human through hundreds of earlier life is really very deep and one could hardly withdraw himself or wean himself off. The desire is similar to the eagerness of an elderly bull walking along the street to stray away and put his mouth at plants growing around. The bull could be prevented from such action only with a lot of difficulty.
जन्मान्तर during earlier lives शत hundreds अभ्यस्ता acquired and practices नृणां of people विषयेषु in wayward worldly pleasures मतिः desire, obsession जरद्गौ: elderly bull/ox सस्येषु on plants and grass on the way इव likeदुःखेन with great difficulty, with a lot of regret विनिवार्यते is weaned away
ജന്മാന്തരശതാഭ്യസ്താ വിഷയേഷു മതിര്നൃണാം।
ജരദ്ഗൌരിവ സസ്യേഷു ദുഃഖേന വിനിവാര്യതേ॥

നൂറുകണക്കിന് ജന്മങ്ങളില് ശീലിച്ചും അനുഭവിച്ചും സ്വഭാവമാക്കിയ മനുഷ്യന്റെ വിഷയസുഖങ്ങളോടുള്ള വിട്ടുമാറാന് പറ്റാത്ത ആസക്തി അയാള്ക്ക് എളുപ്പത്തില് ഒന്നും ഒഴിവാക്കാന് കഴിഞ്ഞു എന്ന് വരികയില്ല. തെരുവില് നടക്കുന്ന വൃദ്ധനായ കാള തെരുവോരത്ത് വളര്ന്നു നില്ക്കുന്ന പച്ചപ്പുല്ലും ചെടികളും കാണുമ്പോള് അവ വായിലാക്കാന് കെട്ടും പൊട്ടിച്ചു തിരിയുന്നത് പോലെ മനുഷ്യനും വിഷയസുഖങ്ങളിലേയ്ക്ക് സ്വയം അറിയാതെ പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കും. അത്തരം പ്രവണതകളില് നിന്ന് പിന്മാറുന്നത് ഏറെ ദുഃഖകരം ആയിരിക്കും. ഒരിക്കലും എളുപ്പമുള്ള കാര്യമല്ല
