परवाच्येषु निपुणः सर्वो भवति सर्वदा।
आत्मवाच्यं न जानीते जानन्नपि च मुह्यति॥
महाभारते कर्णपर्वे ४५-४४
paravācyeṣu nipuṇaḥ sarvo bhavati sarvadā|
ātmavācyaṁ na jānīte jānannapi ca muhyati||
mahābhārate karṇaparve 45-44
People in general exhibit great expertise in pointing out the defects and shortcomings found in others, and would be eager to talk in loud voices about such defects. However when it comes to the shortcomings and inanities of their own, they simply do not recognize them nor do they accept them. Even if they discover such defects, they choose to forget about such shortcomings.
सर्वः all, people in general पर वाच्येषु defects and shortcomings of others सर्वदा always निपुणः intensely efficient भवति are परन्तु howver आत्मवाच्यं shortcomings and inadequacies of oneself, personal inanities न जानीते do not recognize, do not understand जानन् even if understood अपि मुह्यति च tend to overlook, tend to forget
പരവാച്യേഷു നിപുണഃ സര്വോ ഭവതി സര്വദാ।
ആത്മവാച്യം ന ജാനീതേ ജാനന്നപി ച മുഹ്യതി॥
മഹാഭാരതേ കര്ണപര്വേ ൪൫-൪൪
മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ കുറ്റങ്ങളും കുറവുകളും തേടി കണ്ടുപിടിക്കുന്നതിലും അവയെക്കുറിച്ച് പൊടിപ്പും തൊങ്ങലും വച്ചു എല്ലായിടത്തും പറഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നതിലും ആളുകള് അസാമാന്യമായ വൈദഗ്ദ്യം വച്ചു പുലര്ത്തുന്നു.
പക്ഷെ അവര്ക്ക് സ്വന്തം പരിമിതികളും തങ്ങളില് തന്നെ കാണുന്ന ന്യൂനതകളും മനസ്സിലാക്കാനോ അത്തരം പ്രശ്നങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടെന്ന കാര്യം അംഗീകരിക്കാനോ ഒരിക്കലും കഴിയുകയില്ല. ഒരുപക്ഷെ വല്ലപ്പോഴും അത്തരം കുറവുകള് ഉണ്ടെന്നു മനസ്സിലാക്കിയാല് അവര് സൌകര്യപൂര്വ്വം അക്കാര്യം മറക്കുവാന് ശ്രമിക്കും
