good name and goodwill they generate would never get diminished

काले धुरि च युक्तानां वहतां भारमाहितम्।

सीदतामपि कौन्तेय न कीर्तिरवसीदति॥

महाभारते शान्तिपर्वे ७५-२६

kāle dhuri ca yuktānāṁ vahatāṁ bhāramāhitam|

sīdatāmapi kaunteya na kīrtiravasīdati||

mahābhārate śāntiparve 75-26

Some people, either out of their own choice or by force of circumstances, are assigned to or are engaged in activities which are rightful and proper but are very arduous. In the journey, often they may get tired, they may look tired and worn out. However, the good name and goodwill they generate would never get diminished or sullied. Whether they are victorious or are defeated, they attain eternity.

Bheshmacharya tells this to Yudhishtira.. in Shantiparvam of Mahabharatham.

കാലേ ധുരി ച യുക്താനാം വഹതാം ഭാരമാഹിതം।

സീദതാമപി കൌന്തേയ ന കീര്‍തിരവസീദതി॥

മഹാഭാരതേ ശാന്തിപര്വേ ൭൫-൨൬

ധീരന്മാരായ ചില വ്യക്തികള്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ സ്വയം തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തായാലും സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളുടെ സമ്മര്‍ദ്ദം കൊണ്ടായാലും ഏറെ ശ്രമകരവും ഒരുപക്ഷെ നേടിയെടുക്കാന്‍ സാധ്യത ഒട്ടും ഇല്ലാത്തവയും ആയ നല്ല കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ചെയ്തു തീര്‍ക്കാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. അത്തരം പ്രവൃത്തികളുമായി മുന്നോട്ടു പോകുന്നു. അത്തരം യാത്രകളില്‍ അവര്‍ക്ക് ക്ഷീണം തോന്നാം. കാര്യമായ പരാജയങ്ങള്‍ വരെ നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്നേക്കാം. പക്ഷെ അത്തരം മഹാന്മാരുടെ പേരിനും പുകഴിനും ഒരിക്കലും കോട്ടം സംഭവിക്കുകയില്ല. ജയിച്ചാലും ജയിച്ചില്ലെങ്കിലും തങ്ങളുടെ നന്മ കൊണ്ട് അവര്‍ അനശ്വരത നേടുന്നു.
