मोहजालस्य यो योनिर् मूढैरिह समागमः।
अहन्यहनि धर्मस्य योनिः साधुसमागमः॥
तस्मात्प्राज्ञैश्च वृद्धैश्च शुभभावैस्तपस्विभिः।
सद्भिश्च सह सम्सर्गः कार्यः शमपरायणैः॥
न नीचैर्नाप्यविद्वद्भिर्नानात्मज्ञैर्विशेषतः
येषां त्रीण्यवदातानि योनिर् विद्या च कर्म च॥
स्कान्दपुराणे माहेश्वरखण्डे॥
mohajālasya yo yonir mūḍhairiha samāgamaḥ|
ahanyahani dharmasya yoniḥ sādhusamāgamaḥ||
tasmātprājñaiśca vṛddhaiśca śubhabhāvaistapasvibhiḥ|
sadbhiḥśca saha samsargaḥ kāryaḥ śamaparāyaṇaiḥ||
na nīcairnāpyavidvadbhirnānātmajñairviśeṣataḥ
yeṣāṁ trīṇyavadātāni yonir vidyā ca karma ca||
skāndapurāṇe māheśvarakhaṇḍe||
In this world the origin and root cause for people getting enmeshed in the web of delusion and ignorance is their constant association with idiots and ruffians. Association with and getting influenced by noble and pious people every day is the sureshot source and guiding factor for virtues and life based on such virtues.
Therefore one should take care to have the company and guidance of noble souls who are rich in knowledge and experience, who are aged through years and in maturity, who have positive and optimistic outlook, who have adopted calmness as the eternal style of life, and who are rich in penance and are very disciplined.
One should also take care to avoid association with people whose three attibutes namely credentials, education and activities and avocations are not worth mentioning, who are lowly in taste, who lack knowledge and common sense and especially those who are deluded with arrogance and other similar destructive qualities and do not really understand what they are.

इह here in this world मूढैः with idiots समागमः meeting, contact मोहजालस्य the web of delusion योनिः the source, orgin भवति becomes धर्मस्य योनिःorigin of virtue अहनि अहनि every day साधु समागमः union with virtuous noble persons भवति happen तस्मात् therefore प्राज्ञैः knowledgable वृद्धैः elderly शुभभावैः having positive and optimistic outlook शम परायणैः who have adopted calmness as the eternal lifestyle तपस्विभिः rich in discipline and penance सद्भिः good people च too संसर्गं meeting, association, confabulation कुर्यात् should be done येषां whose योनिः credentials विद्या education कर्म activities इति त्रीणि these three अवदातानि are obscure, not worthy of speaking out तादृशानां नीचैः such lowly peole अविद्वद्भिः who lack education विशेषतः अनात्मज्ञैः and especially those who do not know who they are संसर्गः association न कर्तव्यः should not be attempted.
മോഹജാലസ്യ യോ യോനിര് മൂഢൈരിഹ സമാഗമഃ।
അഹന്യഹനി ധര്മസ്യ യോനിഃ സാധുസമാഗമഃ॥
തസ്മാത്പ്രാജ്ഞൈശ്ച വൃദ്ധൈശ്ച ശുഭഭാവൈസ്തപസ്വിഭിഃ।
സദ്ഭിശ്ച സഹ സംസര്ഗഃ കാര്യഃ ശമപരായണൈഃ॥
ന നീചൈര്നാപ്യവിദ്വദ്ഭിര്നാനാത്മജ്ഞൈര്വിശേഷതഃ,
യേഷാം ത്രീണ്യവദാതാനി യോനിര് വിദ്യാ ച കര്മ ച॥
സ്കാന്ദപുരാണേ മാഹേശ്വരഖണ്ഡേ॥
ഈ ഭൂമിയില് വിവരക്കേടിന്റെയും വ്യാമോഹങ്ങളുടെയും പരന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന വലയില് ആളുകള് പെട്ടുപോകുന്നത് ദുഷ്ടന്മാരും വിഡ്ഢികളും ആയ ആളുകളുമായുള്ള നിരന്തരമായ് സഹവാസവും സംസര്ഗവും മൂലം ആണ്. നന്മയും തരവും ഉള്ള മഹത്തുക്കളുടെ സത്സംഗം എന്നും തുടര്ന്നുകൊന്ടെയിരുന്നാല്, അവരുടെ ചര്യകളും ഉപദേശങ്ങളും നമ്മില് തുടര്ച്ചയായി സ്വാധീനം ചെലുത്തുകയാണെങ്കില് നന്മയും നീതിയും നിറഞ്ഞ ധര്മ്മത്തില് അധിഷ്ടിതമായ ജീവിത ചര്യ നിലനിര്ത്തുവാന് അത് നമ്മെ എന്നും തീര്ച്ചയായും സഹായിക്കും.
അത് കൊണ്ട് ജ്ഞാനം കൊണ്ടും ജീവിത പരിചയം കൊണ്ടും സമ്പന്നരായ, അറിവിലും വയസ്സിലും പക്വത കൈവരിച്ച, ശുഭാപ്തിവിശ്വാസവും നന്മ നിറഞ്ഞ ജീവിത വീക്ഷണങ്ങളും വച്ച് പുലര്ത്തുന്ന, അച്ചടക്കവും തപശ്ചര്യയും ജീവിത മാര്ഗ്ഗം ആക്കിയ ശാന്തത ഇപ്പോഴും മുഖമുദ്ര ആക്കിയ മഹത്തുക്കള്ക്ക് ഒപ്പം എന്നും സഹവസിക്കണം. അവരുടെ മാര്ഗ്ഗദര്ശനം സ്വീകരിക്കണം.
അതുമാത്രമല്ല, ഒരാളുടെ തരം, അറിവ്, പ്രവൃത്തി എന്നീ മൂന്നു കാര്യങ്ങള് ദുരൂഹങ്ങളോ, പറയാന് കൊല്ലാത്തവയോ ആണെങ്കിലോ, അത്തരം കാര്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് നമുക്ക് ഒന്നും അറിയില്ലെങ്കിലോ അവരുമായി അടുക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നതാണ് ബുദ്ധി. പിന്നെ തരം താണ ജീവിതവീക്ഷണങ്ങള് വച്ചു പുലര്ത്തുന്നവരോ, അറിയും വിവരവും ഒട്ടും ഇല്ലാത്തവരോ പിന്നെ പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് അഹങ്കാരവും തണ്ടും ഒരു അലങ്കാരമായി കൊണ്ട് നടക്കുന്ന സ്വയം ആരാണെന്നത് ഒട്ടും മനസ്സിലാക്കാത്തവരോ , മനസ്സിലാക്കാന് ശ്രമിക്കാത്തവരോ ആയ ആളുകളുമായി ഒരിക്കലും കൂട്ട് കൂടരുത്.
