सङ्ग्रामे सुभटेन्द्राणां कवीनां कविमण्डले ।
दीप्तिर्वा दीप्तिहानिर्वा मुहूर्तेनैव जायते ॥ १५१ ॥
एकेन राजहंसेन या शोभा सरसोऽभवत् ।
न सा बकसहस्रेण परितस्तीरवासिना ॥ १५२ ॥
बल्लालदेवस्य भोजप्रबन्धे
saṅgrāme subhaṭendrāṇāṃ kavīnāṃ kavimaṇḍale ।
dīptirvā dīptihānirvā muhūrtenaiva jāyate ॥ 151 ॥
ekena rājahaṃsena yā śobhā saraso'bhavat ।
na sā bakasahasreṇa paritastīravāsinā ॥ 152 ॥
ballāladevasya bhojaprabandhe
The glorious rise or sudden fall in fame happens to great warriors in wars and great poets in the exalted assemblies in a matter of minutes. The warriors jump into the battle in all vigour and valour and fight to win or perish within minutes. Similarly, a poet presents his literary creation in the exalted assembly of great men, and if the work is great, he gets immediate approbation and if the work is of low standard, he would be rejected within the shortest time too.
The lustre, beauty and glory provided by a royal swan swimming in all its beauty in a pond is more than that would be provided by a group of thousand storks and cranes populating the bankd of the pond.

सु भटेन्द्राणां classy, valourous and bold warriors संग्रामे battle कवीनां of poets कवि मण्डले in the exalted assembly, circle of great poets च too दीप्तिः glory, shining fame दीप्ति हानिः fall into disrepute वा either मुहूतेन within limited time, in matter of second एव जायते indeed happens
सरसः of the pond, of the waterfront या which शोभा lustre, glory एकेन just one राजहंसेन royal swan अभवत् happened सा that शोभा glory सरसः परितः around the pond तीरवासिना staying in the banks बक stork, crane सहस्रेण thousand न अभवत् does not happen

ബല്ലാലദേവസ്യ ഭോജപ്രബന്ധേ
ശുദ്ധ വീരന്മാര്ക്കും കവികള്ക്കും പ്രശസ്തിയിലേയ്ക്കുള്ള ഉയര്ച്ചയും പെട്ടെന്നുള്ള പതനവും നിമിഷങ്ങള്ക്കകം സംഭവിക്കും. ഏറെ ശക്തിയോടും വീര്യത്തോടും ഒരു പോരാളി യുദ്ധത്തില് തന്റെ എതിരാളിയെ നേരിടാന് മുന്നോട്ടു കുതിക്കുന്നു. എതിരാളിയെ കീഴ്പ്പെടുത്തുകയും വധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോള് അയാള് ഉടനെ വിജയവും പുകഴും നേരിടുന്നു. പോരില് ജീവന് വെടിഞ്ഞാല് അയാള് പെട്ടെന്ന് നാമാവശേഷന് ആവുന്നു. അതുപോലെ ഒരു കവി ഉന്നതരായ പണ്ഡിതന്മാരുടെ സദസ്സില് തന്റെ കൃതി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോള് സദസ്യര് പെട്ടെന്ന് ആ കവിതയെ സ്വീകരിച്ചാല് അയാള് അനശ്വരമായ കീര്ത്തിയിലേക്ക് പെട്ടെന്ന് കുതിച്ചു കയറുന്നു. പക്ഷെ പെട്ടെന്ന് അംഗീകാരം കിട്ടിയില്ലെങ്കില് അതേ കവി എന്നെന്നേയ്ക്കുമായി തമസ്കരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഒരു ജലാശയത്തില് നീന്തിത്തുടിക്കുന്ന ഒരു രാജഹംസം ആ തടാകത്തിനു നല്കുന്ന ഭംഗിയും തിളക്കവും അതെ തടാകത്തിന്റെ കരയില് തിങ്ങിപ്പാര്ക്കുന്ന ആയിരം കൊക്കുകളും കൊറ്റികളും ഒന്നിച്ചു ശ്രമിച്ചാലും ഒരിക്കലും നല്കുവാന് ആവില്ല.
