अग्नौ प्रास्तं तु पुरुषं कर्मान्वेति स्वयं कृतम्।
तस्मात्तु पुरुषो यत्नात् धर्मं सञ्चिनुयाच्छनैः॥
महाभारते ५-४०-१८
agnau prāstaṁ tu puruṣaṁ karmānveti svayaṁ kṛtam|
tasmāttu puruṣo yatnāt dharmaṁ saṁcinuyācchanaiḥ||
mahābhārate 5-40-18
When a person is dead and is thrown into fire, all that keeps him company is the positive and negative results of his own activities during his lifetime. Therefore a person should always engage himself applying his all energy in following dharma and accumulating slowly and steadily the good virtues or punyam by following such path of virtue.
अग्नौ in fire प्रास्तं consigned, thrown into पुरुषं human being स्वयं by oneself कृतं done कर्म deeds, good and bad effect of deeds तु alone अन्वेति keep company तस्मात् therefore पुरुषः a man यत्नात् applying great labour with care शनैः slowly and steadily धर्मं virtues, punyam due to virtues संचिनुयात् तु alone should collect
അഗ്നൌ പ്രാസ്തം തു പുരുഷം കര്മാന്വേതി സ്വയം കൃതം।
തസ്മാത്തു പുരുഷോ യത്നാത് ധര്മം സംചിനുയാച്ഛനൈഃ॥
മഹാഭാരതേ ൫-൪൦-൧൮
ഇത് ഒര്ത്തുകൊണ്ട് മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ജീവിത കാലം മുഴുവന് ധര്മ്മത്തിന്റെ വഴിയില് നല്ല വിധം മുന്നോട്ടുപോയി, തന്റെ കഴിവുകള് എല്ലാം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് പതുക്കെ ആണെങ്കിലും തുടര്ച്ചയായി പുണ്യം സ്വരൂപിച്ചെടുക്കുന്ന കാര്യത്തില് ജാഗരൂകന് ആയിരിക്കണം
