lack of planning can lay waste even the most efficient operation

अनुपायेन नियुक्ताः सन्तोऽपि न साधयन्ति कार्याणि।

ऋजवोऽपि शराः लक्ष्यं न यान्ति विपरीतसंधानात्॥

anupāyena niyuktāḥ santo'pi na sādhayanti kāryāṇi|

ṛjavo'pi śarāḥ lakṣyaṁ na yānti viparītasaṁdhānāt||

Even the most efficient and eminently brilliant person, if he embarks on an action or is employed for some project which is improperly planned and is progressing in the wrong direction would not be able to achieve the target or fulfil the mission successfully. Even if an arrow is strong and sturdy, if it is mounted to be launched in the wrong direction, would never reach its intended target.

अनुपायेन incorrect technique, improper strategy and methodology नियुक्ताः put into action, directed सन्तः best and most efficient persons अपि too कार्याणि things, projects, works न साधयन्ति do not perform successfullyविपरीत in the opposite way, in the wrong way संधानात् trained, directed ऋजवः very straight and lofty अपि even though शरा the arrows लक्ष्यं the target न यान्ति does not reach.

അനുപായേന നിയുക്താഃ സന്തോഽപി ന സാധയന്തി കാര്യാണി|

ഋജവോഽപി ശരാഃ ലക്ഷ്യം ന യാന്തി വിപരീതസന്ധാനാത്||

ഒരു പദ്ധതിയിലോ ഒരു പ്രവൃത്തിയിലോ എത്രയധികം ധിഷണയും കഴിവും കാര്യക്ഷമതയും ഉള്ള വ്യക്തി നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടാലും ആ കാര്യം ശരിയായ വിധത്തില്‍ ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയതല്ലെങ്കിലോ ശരിയായ ദിശയില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം നടക്കുന്നില്ല എങ്കിലോ, ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച മാര്‍ഗ്ഗത്തിനു വിപരീതമായാണ് കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ നടക്കുന്നതെങ്കിലോ അതൊന്നും ഒരിക്കലും വിജയകരമായി ലക്ഷ്യം നേടുകയില്ല.

എത്ര ശക്തിയും പ്രഹരശേഷിയും ഉള്ള അസ്ത്രം ആണെങ്കിലും ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച ദിശയില്‍ അല്ലാതെ എതിര്‍വശത്തേക്ക് എത്ര ശക്തിയോടെ തൊടുത്തു വിട്ടാലും അത് ഒരിക്കലും കൊള്ളേണ്ട ഇടത്തില്‍ കൊള്ളുകയില്ല.
