The wise Vishnu Sharma knew that very well when he said this in Panchatantram.

वाच्यं श्रद्धासमेतस्य पृच्छतोऽत्र विवेकिना। प्रोक्तं पृच्छाविहीने स्यादरण्यरुदितोपमम्॥ इन्दिस्चे स्प्रूचे २७७० पचतन्त्रे

vācyaṁ śraddhāsametasya pṛcchato'tra vivekinā| proktaṁ pṛcchāvihīne syādaraṇyaruditopamam|| indisce sprūce 2770 pacatantre

Talk to, explain to only a person who is diligent and sensible , who has curiosity, interest and inclination to know, and who is raising sensible enquiries. If you give advice or speak to a person without his asking, especially when he has neither interest nor sense to listen to you, it would just like crying in the wilderness.

अत्र here श्रद्धा समेतस्य who is attentive, who has eagerness to know विवेकिना having who is having discrimination, sense पृच्छतः who is asking वाच्यं should be told, should be briefed, should be advised पृच्छा विहीने who does not ask question, who has not sense or capacity to ask question, and no inclination to hear attentively प्रोक्तं told अरण्य रुदितोपमंlike cry in the wilderness स्यात् would be
