सत्यं जनविरोधाय असत्यं जनरञ्जनम्।
सुरा विक्रीयते स्थाने दधि क्षीरं गृहे गृहे॥
satyaṁ janavirodhāya asatyaṁ janarañjanam|
surā vikrīyate sthāne dadhi kṣīraṁ gṛhe gṛhe||

When a person utters raw truth, that action antagonizes majority of the people. However sweet falsehoods are lapped up by people with great merriment.
If toddy is kept for sale in a remote locality very difficult to reach, huge number of people make a beeline towards the sales outlet and hooch is sold out in no time. However a vendor of milk or curd would carry the heavy pots and cry their hearts out at the doors of each and every house, and only a few persons would purchase them.
സത്യം ജനവിരോധായ അസത്യം ജനരഞ്ജനം।
സുരാ വിക്രീയതേ സ്ഥാനേ ദധി ക്ഷീരം ഗൃഹേ ഗൃഹേ॥
ചിത്തവിനോദിനി
ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് സത്യം തുറന്നു പറയുകയാണെങ്കില് അത് ചുറ്റുമുള്ളവരില് മിക്കവാറും ആര്ക്കും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുകയില്ല. ഉള്ള കാര്യം തുറന്നു പറയുന്നയാളെ ഭൂരിഭാഗം പേരും വെറുത്തു എന്നും വരാം. പക്ഷെ കാപട്യം ചാലിച്ച് ചക്കരവാക്കുകള് പറയുന്ന ആളുകളെ എല്ലാവരും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടും. അത്തരം വാക്കുകള് കേള്ക്കാന് അയാളുടെ ചുറ്റും നാട്ടുകാര് തടിച്ചു കൂടും.
നാട്ടില് ആളുകള്ക്ക് എത്തിപ്പെടാന് ദുര്ഘടമായ ഒരു മൂലയില് ഇരുന്നുകൊണ്ട് ഒരാള് മദ്യം വില്ക്കുകയാണെങ്കില് പോലും അത് വാങ്ങാന് ആളുകള് നാട്ടിന്റെ എല്ലാ ഭാഗത്തില് നിന്നും ഓടിയെത്തും. വില്പന അതിവേഗം നടക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും
പക്ഷെ പാലും തൈരും വില്ക്കാന് അവ നിറച്ച കുടങ്ങളും തലയില് ചുമന്നു വില്പ്പനക്കാര് ഓരോ വീട്ടിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ചെന്ന് തൊണ്ട പൊട്ടുന്ന വിധം നിലവിളിച്ചാലും പാലും തൈരും വാങ്ങാന് കുറച്ച് പേരെ ഉണ്ടാവുകയുള്ളൂ.
