It should be remembered that one cannot impress people of class through mere verbal skills or ornamental presentations, or through show off. Of course no one can ever impress a person who is either foolish or disinterested.
One must use words, chaste vocabulary, language skills, and intellectual acumen to showcase ideas which are noble and useful for himself and the readers too.
Actually a gentleman would air a view in public only if he is convinced that view or idea would be of great utility for the reader and the listener.
Trying to exhibit verbal expertise or flaunt language skills out of place, trying to look funny , even bordering on absurdity, to impress others... all these might attract attention for a few minutes. However only the depth, relevance and utility of the matter presented would carry the day.
