प्रीणाति यः सुचरितैः पितरं स पुत्रःयद्भर्त्रुरेव हितमिच्छति तत् कळत्रम्।

तन्मित्रमापदि सुखे च समक्रियम् यद्एतत् त्रयम् जगति पुण्यकृतो लभन्ते॥

भर्तृहरि

prīṇāti yaḥ sucaritaiḥ pitaraṃ sa putraḥyadbhartrureva hitamicchati tat kaḻatram।

tanmitramāpadi sukhe ca samakriyam yadetat trayam jagati puṇyakṛto labhante॥

bhartṛhari

यः who सुचरितैः by his own exemplary activities and achievement पितरं the father, the parents प्रीणाति makes extremely happy सः he उत्तमः पुत्रः भवति he is the best, ideal son.

यद् which one भर्त्रुः हितं the welfare, the pleasure of the husband इच्छति desires तत् that उत्तमं कलत्रं भवति she is the most suitable wife

यद् which one आपदि at times of dangers and challenges सुखे at times of happiness and comfort च too समक्रियं of the same favourable action, of the same favourable attitude तत् that उत्तमं मित्रं भवति that is the best friend

The worthy son is the one who pleases his parents through his nice conduct activities and reputation .The good wife is the lady whose only desire is the wellbeing of her husband. A true friend is one who is eager to be hearty and friendly when a person is in comfort and is eager to help when is facing dangers and challenges. Only those with lot of punyam would be blessed with these three.

ഉത്തമനായ പുത്രന്‍ എന്ന് ഒരാളെ കണക്കാക്കണം എങ്കില്‍ അയാള്‍ സ്വന്തം സത്സ്വഭാവം കൊണ്ടും, നന്മ നിറഞ്ഞ പെരുമാറ്റം കൊണ്ടും നല്ല പേര് നേടി സ്വന്തം അച്ഛനമ്മമാരേ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കണം.

ഭര്‍ത്താവിന്‍റെ നന്മയും സുഖവും എപ്പോഴും ആഗ്രഹിക്കുകയും അതിനായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നവള്‍ ആണ് ഉത്തമയായ ഭാര്യ.
