सुलभाः पुरुषा राजन संततं प्रियवादिनः

अप्रियस्य च सत्यस्य वक्ता श्रोता च दुर्लभः

sulabhaaH purushaaH raajan santatam priya vaadinaH

apriyasya cha satyasya vaktaa shrotaa cha durlabhaH

raajan...राजन् oh king,

santatam..संततं always,

priyavaadinah.. प्रियवादिनः Those whose talk things which are niece to hear

sulabhaaH (bhavanti) सुलभाःभवन्ति.. are available in plenty..

( parantu) apriyasya cha satysa ( or pathysya)

परन्तु अप्रियस्य च सत्यस्य (अथवा) पथ्यस्यbut of words which are not exactly sweet bur are true (or meant for the hearer's welfare)

vaktaa..वक्ता speaker,

shrota श्रोता ( one who listens)

cha durlabhaaH bhavatha .. च दुर्लभः are very rare indeed.

Mareecha is seeing the writing on the wall..

To interfere with Rama's life is simply purchasing trouble with capital T..

He tries to talk to his adamant and fierce nephew.. trying to persuade him to drop the project..

Maricha is threatened with decapitation if he refused to obey..

Then he tells these words to his arrogant nephew

" Oh King Ravana, we can find lots and lots of people who will talk only very nice and flattering things to you.

But rare indeed are those who can talk of things which many not be pleasant to hear but are favourable to one's interest in the long run.. Listener's to such advise are rarer indeed."
