Excessive discussion or probe into the methodology of following the path of Dharma should not be encouraged

जिज्ञासा न तु कर्तव्या धर्मस्य परितर्कणात्॥

महाभारेते अनुशासनपर्वे १६२-२१

रुचितो वर्तते धर्मो न बलात् संप्रवर्तते॥

महाभारते शान्तिपर्वे ७८-१०

प्रवृत्तिलक्षणं धर्मः प्रजार्थिर्भिरुदाहृदः।

यथोक्तं राजशार्दूल न तु तन्मोक्षकाङ्क्षीणाम्॥

महाभारते अनुशासनपर्वे ११५-४७

jijñāsā na tu kartavyā dharmasya paritarkaṇāt||

mahābhārete anuśāsanaparve 162-21

rucito vartate dharmo na balāt saṁpravartate||

Some very interesting instructions from Mahabharata about establishing and following the path of Dharma or righteous path..

Excessive discussion or probe into the methodology of following the path of Dharma should not be encouraged. It is always preferable to follow the established path.

People could not always be led in the path of righteousness merely by force and compulsion. The taste for such path should come spontaneously.

Bhishma tells Yudhishthira, “Oh Tiger among kings, the path of Dharma followed by a leader who is keen to fulfil the dreams and desires of his subject would not be the same as that adhered to one who is seeking emancipation or moksha from the worldly woes. The dharma followed by the leader should be more practical and pragmatic ”

ജിജ്ഞാസാ ന തു കർതവ്യാ ധർമസ്യ പരിതർകണാത്॥

മഹാഭാരതേ അനുശാസനപർവേ ൧൬൨-൨൧

രുചിതോ വർതതേ ധർമോ ന ബലാത് സംപ്രവർതതേ॥

പ്രവൃത്തിലക്ഷണം ധർമഃ പ്രജാർത്ഥിർഭിർരുദാഹൃദാഃ

യഥോർഥം രാജശാര്‍ദൂല ന തു തന്മോക്ഷകാങ്ക്ഷീണാം॥

മഹാഭാരതേ അനുശാസനപര്‍വേ ൧൧൫-൪൭

ധർമ്മവും സദാചാരവും നിലനിര്‍ത്തുന്നതിനും ആ പാതയിൽ മുന്നോട്ടു പോകുവാനും ഒപ്പമുള്ളവരെ കൂടെ അതെ മാർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നിലനിർത്തുവാനും ഉള്ള ചില മാർഗ്ഗങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് മഹാഭാരതത്തിൽ പറയുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങൾ ആണ് ഈ ശ്ലോകങ്ങളിൽ കാണുന്നത്.

കീഴ്'വഴക്കങ്ങൾ പിന്തുടർന്ന് ധർമ്മത്തിന്‍റെ വഴിയിൽ മുന്നോട്ടു പോകുന്നതാണ് അഭിലഷണീയം. ഓരോ കാര്യവും വേണ്ടതിലധികം ജിജ്ഞാസയും വിമർശന ബുദ്ധിയും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് കീറിമുറിച്ച് നിരൂപണം ചെയ്യുന്നത് പ്രായോഗികമല്ല.

മറ്റുള്ളവരെ സദാസമയവും ബലം പ്രയോഗിച്ച് ധർമ്മവും സദാചാരവും അനുഷ്ഠിപ്പിക്കാൻ പ്രയാസമാണ്. എല്ലാവർക്കും നന്മയിൽ അഭിരുചി ഉണ്ടായാൽ മാത്രമേ ധർമ്മം നിലനിൽക്കുകയുള്ളൂ .

ഭീഷ്മാചാര്യർ യുധിഷ്ഠിരനോട് പറയുന്നു... “കടുവയെപ്പോലെ, സിംഹത്തെപ്പോലെ വീരനായ രാജാവേ, ജനങ്ങളുടെ അഭിലാഷങ്ങളും സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും പൂർത്തീകരിക്കാനുള്ള ലക്ഷ്യവുമായി മുന്നേറുന്ന ഒരു നേതാവ് പിന്തുടരുന്ന ധർമ്മത്തിന്‍റെ വഴി ആയിരിക്കുകയില്ല ഭൂമിയിലെ കർമ്മബന്ധങ്ങൾ വെടിഞ്ഞു മോക്ഷം തേടുന്ന ജ്ഞാനി പിന്തുടരുന്നത്. പ്രജകളെ നയിക്കുന്ന നേതാവ് പിന്തുടരുന്ന ധർമ്മം കൂടുതൽ പ്രായോഗികവും കർമ്മാധിഷ്ഠിതവും ആയിരിക്കണം”.
