truthfulness and obedience to standard rules are common features

When I was discussing about certain lofty qualities of great men as prescribed in a Slokam in the epic Mahabharatham, a question came as to whether such qualities were listed as the sterling qualities of Rama.. the sixteen qualities of an ideal person listed in the earlier chapters of Balakandam of Valmiki Ramayanam
I can address to that question only with this reply
May be they are implied or contained within the qualities possessed by Rama. But then when Rama rules as a Kshatriya, sometimes there can be ups an down in the dosage. An ideal scholar, an ideal warrior, an ideal ruler, an ideal businessman or trader.. they are all separate classes and the thrust areas for their action might vary substantially. Anyway truthfulness and obedience to standard rules are common features.
The statements made in various texts, be it Gita, Veda, Upanishads, Dharmasastras, Kavyams.. they should be put to validation in the backdrop of time, conext, the persons who are involved, the persons for whom the dicta are meant and the preponderence of circumstances too. If anyone tries to pry out the statement as if it is a stand alone edict and try to interpret or to contradict it, there is absolutely no way to face such interpretations or tirades.
People with shallow understanding only will fight on the basis of such restricted interpretations.
But social media and the present society are filled with such persons in Gods plenty.
