difficult to have complete control over senses

इन्द्रियाणामनुत्सर्गो मृत्युनापि विशिष्यते।

अत्यर्थं पुनरुत्सर्गः सादयेद्दवतानपि॥इन्दिश्चे स्प्रूचे ३७४७ महाभारते

indriyāṇāmanutsargo mṛtyunāpi viśiṣyate|

atyarthaṁ punarutsargaḥ sādayeddavatānapi||indiśce sprūce 3747 mahābhārate

It is indeed difficult to have complete and sustained control over one’s senses and sense oragans. Often, they have their own way of working, and that may not suit to the thought process and rules demanded by the situations. Yes, even death would look easier for a man when it comes to controlling or even suppressing his senses.

However, it has to be well understood that if the sense organs and the senses possessed by them are left to run the way they please, without any control or objectivity, such situation can lead to damage, death and destruction.. Yes, emotions cannot be permitted to run amock. Even Divine beings have faced misery just because they failed to checkmate their senses.

A golden balance between control and indulgence seems to be the right approach. There should be clear demarcation about the borders for activities, but there should be elbow space within the contours.

इन्द्रियाणां of the senses, sense organs. अनुत्सर्गः strict control, disciplining मृत्युना अपि even more than death विशिष्यते difficult to practice, difficult to achieve

पुनः at the same time अत्यर्थं in excessive, in unlimited manner, without limit उत्सर्गः independence, waywardness देवतान् अपि even gods सादयेत् cause damage, death.

Binding the senses means more than dying: but giving them too much free rein could even become fatal to the gods
