न भाति वाञ्छा वैजात्ये न देवा भान्ति वादिनि।
अञ्जनं दूषणम् वक्त्रे भूषणं किल लोचने॥
दृष्टान्तकलिकाशतकं
na bhāti vāñchā vaijātye na devā bhānti vādini|
anjanaṁ dūṣaṇam vaktre bhūṣaṇaṁ kila locane||
dṛṣṭāntakalikāśatakaṁ
Where there is conflict and persistent dissidence among people, affection and concern for one another cannot survive for long. Divine grace and good fortune may not visit people who are always engaged in destructive talk and acrimonious debates.
Collyrium or anjanam, the black medicinal lotion, when it is applied to the eyes gives beauty and shine to the eyes. However if it is applied to the lips it can only give grotesque results.
ന ഭാതി വാഞ്ഛാ വൈജാത്യേ ന ദേവാ ഭാന്തി വാദിനി।
അഞ്ജനം ദൂഷണം വക്ത്രേ ഭൂഷണം കില ലോചനേ॥
ദൃഷ്ടാന്തകലികാശതകം
വ്യക്തികള്ക്കിടയില് അവസാനിക്കാത്ത അഭിപ്രായവ്യത്യാസവും വിയോജനവും നിലനില്ക്കുകയാണെങ്കില് അവര്ക്ക് തമ്മില് തമ്മില് സൌഹൃദവും കരുതലും വച്ചു പുലര്ത്താന് ഒരിക്കലും സാധിക്കുകയില്ല. ഭാഗ്യവും ദൈവാധീനവും ഒന്നും എപ്പോഴും കലഹിക്കാന് വേണ്ടി മാത്രം നാവു ചലിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ആളുകളുടെ അടുക്കല് ഒരിക്കലും വന്നെത്തുകയില്ല.
അഞ്ജനം കണ്ണുകളില് എഴുതുമ്പോള് കണ്ണുകളുടെ തിളക്കവും അഴകും ഏറെ വര്ദ്ധിക്കുന്നു. പക്ഷെ ആ അഞ്ജനം തന്നെ ചുണ്ടില് അണിഞ്ഞാല് ഉണ്വുടാന്ന വൈരൂപ്യം ഊഹിക്കാവുന്നതേയുള്ളൂ.
