न सा दीक्षा न सा भिक्षा न तद्दानं न तत्तपः।
न तद् ध्यानं न तद्मौनं दया यत्र न विद्यते॥
na sā dīkṣā na sā bhikṣā na taddānaṁ na tattapaḥ|
na tad dhyānaṁ na tadmaunaṁ dayā yatra na vidyate||
If there is no compassion for others in the spirit and conduct of a person
His initiation into spirituality is in vain
His activities in making offerings to exalted souls are in vain
His charitable activities are of no use
His hard penance is of little avail
His tenacity in meditation would not bring much results
His vows is silence and restraint too would not yield desired results

ന സാ ദീക്ഷാ ന സാ ഭിക്ഷാ ന തദ്ദാനം ന തത്തപഃ।
ന തദ് ധ്യാനം ന തദ്മൌനം ദയാ യത്ര ന വിദ്യതേ॥
ഒരു വ്യക്തിയുടെ ചിന്തയിലും പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളിലും കാരുണ്യം നിറഞ്ഞു നില്ക്കുന്നില്ല എങ്കില്
അയാള്ക്ക് ആധ്യാത്മികമായ ദീക്ഷ കിട്ടിയിട്ടും ഒരു പ്രയോജനവും ഇല്ല.
മഹാത്മക്കള്ക്കായി അയാള് ഒരുക്കുന്ന ഭിക്ഷ ഒരു ഫലവും നല്കില്ല.
ദാനധര്മ്മങ്ങള് എന്ന് ധരിച്ച് അയാള് ചെയ്യുന്ന ചിലവുകള് അയാള്ക്ക് പുണ്യം നല്കുകയില്ല
കുത്തിയിരുന്നു ഏറെ നാള് തപസ്സു ചെയ്താലും അതിനൊന്നും ഫലം കിട്ടാന് പോകുന്നില്ല.
എത്ര ഏകാഗ്രതയോടെ ധ്യാനത്തില് ഏര്പ്പെട്ടാലും അതില് നിന്നൊന്നും വേണ്ടത്ര വിജയം ലഭിക്കുകയില്ല.
അയാളുടെ മൌനദീക്ഷ പോലും അയാള്ക്ക് പ്രയോജനം നല്കി എന്ന് വരില്ല.
