sources which are known to be flawed would not ratify the merits claimed

 

दुष्टेन साक्षिभावेन न नरः शुद्धिमृच्छति।

न हि पङ्काम्भसा क्षालद्वासो वै शुद्धिमाप्न्युयात्॥

इन्दिश्चे स्प्रूचे ४२०४ कवितामृतकूपे

duṣṭena sākṣibhāvena na naraḥ śuddhimṛcchati|

na hi paṅkāmbhasā kṣāladvāso vai śuddhimāpnyuyāt||

indiśce sprūce 4204 kavitāmṛtakūpe

A man would not attain purity, a man would not be treated as pure and clean (especially if his antecedents are neither clear nor verified) just because he gets a testimony or validating commenets ratifying his merits from sources which are known to be flawed, or are known to be evil and dishonest. Just see, you try to wash your clothes using water which is solidly contaminated with mud and dirty, will the cloth ever get clean ?

नरः man दुष्टेन through defective, through evil साक्षिभावेन testimony, validation as to the worth and utility शुद्धिं purity न ऋच्छति would not attain पङ्क अम्भसा with water dirty with mud क्षालाद् washing वासः clothes न हि not surely शुद्धिं purity आप्नुयात् attain वै indeed
