When a cat hunts and eats a rooster growing in the household, we feel the sense of loss and grief far more intensely that when the same cat hunts down a sparrow or chases and dines on a mouse. The reason is simple.. The rooster is near us, useful to us, and too familiar to us and we have developed liking for it.
