When there are positive results, great men share the success with all people around.

सह परिजनेन विलसति धीरो गहनानि तरति पुनरेकः।

विषमेकेन निपीतं पुरजिता सह सुरैरमृतम्॥

सुभाषित रत्न भाण्डागारे, प्रसङ्गरत्नावली

saha parijanena vilasati dhīro gahanāni tarati punarekaḥ।

viṣamekena nipītaṃ purajitā saha surairamṛtam॥

subhāṣita ratna bhāṇḍāgāre, prasaṅgaratnāvalī

A person of class, dignity and boldness loves to enjoy the pleasures of life in the company of his beloved friends, kinsmen and attendants. However, if he has to face a difficult situation or to accomplish a complicated task involving great danger, he would go about execution of the task all alone and would accomplish it without causing detriment to the people around him. Lord Shiva was present when the Devas and Asuras churned the Milky ocean. The serpent Vasuki spewed out the deadly venom Kalakoota under pressure and that poison would have destroyed all the gods and demons around. Sensing the danger, Lord Shiva the annihilator of the three cities Tripura, took the poison in his hands and swallowed it, restricting the effects of the poison to himself alone. The Lord survived and his neck became blue, that is another story. But all othes were saved. That is more important.

Later, ambrosia, or Amrutham came out of the milky ocean as a result of churning. This time the Lord Shiva did not drink amrutham all alone but he drank the ambrosia sharing the potion along with all the Gods. When there are positive results, great men share the success with all people around.

धीरः the person of exalted quality, boldness, nobility परिजनेन dependent people सह along with विलसति. Moves around happily किन्तु however पुनः again गहनानि complicated, difficult tasks, mission एकः alone तरति surpasses, accomplishes . पुरजिता by Lord Shiva the victor of the three cities एकेन by one एव alone विषं the poison निपीतम् was consumed परन्तु but सुरैः सह in the full company of gods, sharing with them अमृतं ambrosia पीतम् was drunk

സഹ പരിജനേന വിലസതി ധീരോ ഗഹനാനി തരതി പുനരേകഃ।

വിഷമേകേന നിപീതം പുരജിതാ സഹ സുരൈരമൃതം॥

തരവും തന്‍റെടവും കൈമുതലായുള്ള നന്മയുള്ള ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്‍ സ്വന്തം ജീവിതത്തില്‍ സൌഖ്യവും സന്തോഷവും നിലനില്‍ക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ആ സൌഭാഗ്യം തന്‍റെ ഉറ്റ സുഹൃത്തുക്കലക്കും ബന്ധുക്കള്‍ക്കും ആശ്രിതര്‍ക്കും ഒപ്പം കലവറയില്ലാതെ പങ്കു വയ്ക്കുന്നതില്‍ സന്തോഷം കണ്ടെത്തുന്നു. പക്ഷെ അതെ വ്യക്തി ഒരു വിഷമഘട്ടം അഭിമുഖീകരിക്കുകയാണെങ്കിലോ അപകടം നിറഞ്ഞ, ഏറെ നൂലാമാലകള്‍ ഉണ്ടായെയ്ക്കാവുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യം ചെയ്തു തീര്‍ക്കാന്‍ നിര്‍ബന്ധിതനായി അതിനായി ഇറങ്ങിപ്പുറപ്പെടുക ആണെങ്കിലോ അത് മറ്റുള്ളവരെ വലിച്ചിഴക്കാതെ, ഉറ്റവര്‍ക്ക്‌ ഒരു അപകടവും വരുത്താതെ എന്ത് കഷ്ടം അനുഭവിച്ചും സ്വയം ചെയ്തു തീര്‍ക്കാനേ ശ്രമിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ.

ഭഗവാന്‍ ശിവന്‍ ദേവന്മാരും അസുരന്മാരും ചേര്‍ന്ന് അമൃതം കിട്ടാനായി പാല്‍ക്കടല്‍ കടഞ്ഞ സമയം അവരുടെ അരികില്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കടയുന്ന കയറായി ഉപയോഗിച്ച വാസുകി എന്ന സര്‍പ്പം സമ്മര്‍ദ്ടം താങ്ങാന്‍ വയ്യാതെ ഒരു അവസരത്തില്‍ ഏറെ മാരകമായ കാളകൂടം എന്ന വിഷം തുപ്പി. ആ വിഷം പുറത്ത് ഒഴുകിയാല്‍ അത് ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ദേവന്മാരെയും അസുരന്മാരെയും എല്ലാം ചുട്ടു ചാമ്പലാക്കും എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും വിനാശവും മരണവും സമ്മാനിക്കും എന്ന കാര്യം ഉറപ്പായിരുന്നു. ഈ അപകടം മനസ്സിലാക്കി ത്രിപുരങ്ങളും ചുട്ടു നശിപ്പിച്ച ശക്തനായ ഭഗവാന്‍ ശിവന്‍, ആ വിഷം സ്വന്തം കൈവെള്ളയില്‍ സ്വീകരിച്ചു അത് മുഴുവന്‍ സ്വയം വിഴുങ്ങി..ആ വിഷത്തിന്റെ മാരക ഫലങ്ങള്‍ തന്നില്‍ മാത്രം ഒതുക്കി നിര്ത്തിക്കൊണ്ടും, എല്ലാ അപകടങ്ങളും സ്വയം ഏറ്റെടുത്തുകൊണ്ടും.

ഭഗവാന്‍ സ്വന്തം ദിവ്യത്വം കൊണ്ട് ആ അപകടനില തരണം ചെയ്തു. നീലകണ്ഠന്‍ ആയി. അത് വേറെ കാര്യം. പക്ഷെ ആ പ്രവൃത്തി കാരണം മറ്റുള്ളവരെല്ലാം രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. അതാണ്‌ ഇവിടെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കേണ്ട കാര്യം.

അതെ പാലാഴിയില്‍ നിന്ന് പിനീട് അമൃതം പൊങ്ങിവന്നു. അപ്പോള്‍ എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും മരണമില്ലാത്ത അനശ്വരത്വം നല്‍കുന്ന ആ അമൃതം ശിവന്‍ താന്‍ മാത്രമായി പാനം ചെയ്യാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല. എല്ലാ ദേവന്മാര്‍ക്കും ഒപ്പം അദ്ദേഹം അമൃതം പങ്കിട്ട് ആസ്വദിച്ചു. നല്ല മനുഷ്യര്‍ വിജയം വരുമ്പോള്‍ അത് അവര്‍ക്ക് ചുറ്റും ഉള്ള ഉറ്റവരും ഉടയവരും ഒപ്പം സന്തോഷത്തോടെ പങ്കു വയ്ക്കുന്നു
