परितप्यत एव नोत्तमः परितप्तोऽप्यपरः सुसंवृतिः |
परवृद्धिभिराहितव्यथः स्फुटनिर्भिन्नदुराशयोधमः ||

paravṛddhibhirāhitavyathaḥ sphuṭanirbhinnadurāśayodhamaḥ ||

A man of character who has maturity in his approach to life would never feel jealous or disturbed when he finds that others around are more successful than him. The man of average capacity and pragmatic attitude would not openly exhibit his jealousy and anxiety over the success of others, even if he would be feeling uneasy. However, he would try his best to ensure that the success earned by others would not affect adversely his own personal interests.
However, the rude and wretched person, would find it impossible not to get depressed and miserable seeing the success of others, and he would not be able to hide such jealousy and his own misery arising out of such jealousy, even if he tried to do so.

പരിതപ്യത ഏവ നോത്തമഃ പരിതപ്തോഽപ്യപരഃ സുസംവൃതിഃ |
പരവൃദ്ധിഭിരാഹിതവ്യഥഃ സ്ഫുടനിര്ഭിന്നദുരാശയോധമഃ ||

നേരും തരവും ഉള്ള നല്ല മനുഷ്യര്ക്ക് ചുറ്റും ഉള്ള മറ്റുള്ളവര്ക്ക് തങ്ങളേക്കാള് കൂടുതല് സമൃദ്ധിയും സന്തോഷവും ഉണ്ടാവുന്നത് കാണുമ്പോള് അതില് ഒരു വിധത്തിലുള്ള അസൂയയോ അസഹിഷ്ണുതയോ തോന്നുകയില്ല.
ശരാശരി മനുഷ്യര്ക്ക് മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ സമൃദ്ധി കാണുമ്പോള് കുറച്ചൊക്കെ അസൂയയും അസ്വസ്ഥതയും തോന്നുമെങ്കിലും അവര് യാഥാര്ത്ഥ്യങ്ങള് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു സ്വയം നിയന്ത്രിക്കുകയും അത്തരം വിഷമങ്ങള് പുറത്തു കാണിക്കാതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.
പക്ഷെ അസൂയയും ദുഷ്ടതയും കൊണ്ട് മനസ്സ് കലുഷമായിരിക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യര്, മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ വിജയവും അവര്ക്കുണ്ടാവുന്ന സമൃദ്ധിയും കണ്ടു മനസ്സ് നൊന്ത് അസഹിഷ്ണുതയോടും വെറുപ്പ് മുഴുവന് പുറത്തു കാണിച്ചു കൊണ്ടും സ്വയം ദുഃഖിതരായും മറ്റുള്ളവര്ക്ക് ദുഃഖം കൊടുതുകൊണ്ടും നാളുകള് കഴിച്ച്കൂട്ടും.
