काव्येन मूर्खधनिनं प्रणयेन नीचं वेश्यां श्रुतेन शठशात्रवमार्जवेन।

इच्छन्ति ते रञ्जयितुं विमूढान् तेषामरण्यरुदितेन समः प्रयासः॥

If one attempts

To please a rich idiotic person through earnest presentation of poetry and lofty literature

To become friendly with a ruffian or idiot through show of sincere love and affection

To try to reason with a woman of easy virtue by quoting fom scriptures and texts dealing with proper conduct

To make a stubborn enemy to come round by showing earnestness and sincerity

To try to show reason to stubborn and obsessed people,

Then he is just making an impossible attempt like trying to find his way to safety by mere crying when trapped in a forest.

मूर्ख धनिनं the rich but idiotic person काव्येन through great poetry नीचं ruffian, emotionless lowly fellow प्रणयेन through affection वेश्यां the prostitute, the lady of easy virtue श्रुतेन by quoting scriptures शठशात्रवं stubborn enemy आर्जवेन honesty and straightforwardness च ये to who विमूढान् obsessed stubborn unreasonable people रञ्जयितुं to plese इच्छन्ति want, propopose तेषां their प्रयासः attemspts अरण्य रुदितेन cry in the forest समः similar to भवति happens

വിഡ്ഢിയും അഹങ്കാരിയും ആയ ധനികനെ കവിതയും കലയും കൊണ്ട് തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കുന്ന ആള്‍

ദുഷ്ടനും ക്രൂരനും ആയ വ്യക്തിയോട് സ്നേഹവും കരുതലും കാണിച്ചു അയാളെ വശത്ത്താക്കുവാന്‍ പാടിപെടുന്നവന്‍

സദാചാരബോധം ഒട്ടും ഇല്ലാത്ത തെറ്റായ വഴിയില്‍ ജീവിതം നയിക്കുന്ന ഒരു വ്യക്തിയെ ശാസ്ത്രം പഠിപ്പിച്ചു നല്ല വഴിയിലേക്ക് നയിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുമെന്ന് വ്യാമോഹിക്കുന്ന നല്ല മനുഷ്യന്‍

ശത്രുത തലയ്ക്കു പിടിച്ചു കണ്ണ് കാണാന്‍ കഴിയാത്തവിധം അകന്നു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന ആളെ സത്യസന്ധതയും കരുതലും കാണിച്ചു നല്ല നിലയിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കുന്ന പാവം മനുഷ്യന്‍

ഒട്ടും യുക്തിയില്ലാതെ പെരുമാരുന്നവരോടു സൗഹൃദം കാണിച്ചു അവരെ വശത്താക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുമെന്ന് കരുതുന്ന വ്യക്തി

ഇവരെല്ലാം കാട്ടില്‍ അകപ്പെട്ടു വഴിയറിയാതെ നടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ നിസ്സഹായരായി ഉറക്കെ കരയുന്ന ഗതികിട്ടാത്ത ആളുകളെപ്പോലെ തന്നെയാണ്. ഇവര്‍ നടത്തുന്നത് വനരോദനം മാത്രം.

without hatred or rancour towards people who are not very favourably disposed

उपकारिणि वीतमत्सरे वा सदयत्वं यति कोऽतिरेकः।

अहिते सहसा पराद्धलब्दे सघृणं यस्य मनः सतां स धुर्यः॥

अमृतवल्लभ वल्लभदेवसुभाषित २५६

upakāriṇi vītamatsare vā sadayatvaṁ yati ko'tirekaḥ|

ahite sahasā parāddhalabde saghṛṇaṁ yasya manaḥ satāṁ sa dhuryaḥ||

A very noble thought.. which can arise only in the minds of the best...

Normally, we are not that generous, not that kind

What is there to speak of as great deed, if one shows kindness and consideration towards people who are of great help and who do not entertain any jealousy towards him? That is quite natural..

If one's mind is without hatred or rancour towards people who are not very favourably disposed to him, and those who have caused injury or slighting for him even in the immediate past, then he is to be considered as occupying the foremost positions among the noblest among the noble persons..

This is an ideal, perhaps..

But then, even to strive for things which are somewhat nice, we should set up very high benchmarks..

Aiming at the stars may take us at least to the top of a tree..

ഉപകാരിണി വീതമത്സരേ വാ സദയത്വം യതി കോഽതിരേകഃ

അഹിതേ സഹസാ പരാദ്ധലബ്ദേ സഘൃണം യസ്യ മനഃ സതാം സ ധുര്യഃ

ഏറെ പ്രസക്തമായ ഒരു സുഭാഷിതം. ഏറെ വ്യക്തത ഉള്ള ഒരു മനസ്സില്‍ മാത്രം ഉദിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ചിന്ത

സാധാരണഗതിയില്‍ നാം ഏറെ ഉദാരമായ മനസ്സ് ഉള്ളവര്‍ ഒന്നുമല്ല. അത്രയൊന്നും കാരുണ്യം ഉള്ളവരും അല്ല. എങ്കിലും ഇക്കാര്യം പരിഗണിക്കാം.

ഒരാള്‍ നമ്മോടു ഏറെ ദയയും കരുതലും പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുകയും നമ്മെ ഒത്തിരി സഹായിക്കുകയും നമ്മോടു ഒട്ടും അസൂയ പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കാതെ ജീവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അയാളോട് നമുക്ക് ഏറെ അടുപ്പവും സൌഹൃദവും ഉണ്ടാവുകയും അയാളോട് നീരസമോ അസഹിഷ്ണുതയോ ഉണ്ടാവാതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്‌താല്‍ അതില്‍ അത്ഭുതപ്പെടാനോ അക്കാര്യം എടുത്തുപറയാനോ ഒരു കാരണവും ഉണ്ടെന്നു തോന്നുന്നല്ല.

പക്ഷെ ഒരാളോടു വെറുപ്പും വിദ്വേഷവും സ്ഥിരമായി വച്ചു പുലര്‍ത്തുന്നവരോടും ഒരല്ലോട് ഒരിക്കലും അടുപ്പം കാണിക്കാത്തവരും , അടുത്ത കാലത്ത് പോലും ഒരാള്‍ക്കു അപമാനവും അവഹേളനവും വരുത്തി വച്ച ആയ ആളുകളോട് അതെല്ലാം അവഗണിച്ചു ഒരാള്‍ സ്നേഹവും മഹാമാനസ്കതയും പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ അത്തരം ഉയര്‍ന്ന മനസ്ഥിതി ഉള്ള വ്യക്തിയെ മനുഷ്യന്മാരില്‍ വച്ച് ഏറ്റവും ഉത്തമാനായി പരിഗണിക്കേണ്ടതാണ്.

ഇതൊരു ഉയര്‍ന്ന ചിന്തയാണ്. എത്തിപ്പിടിക്കാന്‍ വിഷമമുള്ള ഒരു മാനസികാവസ്ഥയാണ് ഇവിടെ പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്.

പക്ഷെ ഉയര്‍ന്ന ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങള്‍ നോട്ടമിട്ടാല്‍ മാത്രമേ നമുക്ക് കുറച്ചൊക്കെ ഉയരാന്‍ പറ്റുകയുള്ളൂ

 

 

स्पृहणीया कस्य न ते सुमतेः सरलाशया महात्मानः

स्पृहणीया कस्य न ते सुमतेः सरलाशया महात्मानः।

त्रयमपि येषां सदृशं हृदयं वचनं तदाचारः॥

वल्लभदेव

spṛhaṇīyā kasya na te sumateḥ saralāśayā mahātmānaḥ|

trayamapi yeṣāṁ sadṛśaṁ hṛdayaṁ vacanaṁ tadācāraḥ||

Which person with an effusive heart, and straight thinking will not shower praises and treat with utmost respect great men whose heart, words and action would work in harmoniously and in the positive direction?

The poet here says that men of quality and class always think with clarity and compassion (this comes from heart), and speak out only things which have been found close to their heart, and would also convert the good thoughts into the right action.

Of course we find many people around us who have no heart at all, but speak with synthetic sweetness in words and have in plenty black evil and deception in their activities.

tendency to help comes spontaneously..

कस्यादेशाद् क्षपयति तमः सप्तसप्तिः प्रजानां

छायाहेतोः पथि विटपिनामञ्जलिः केन बद्धः।

अभ्यर्थ्यन्ते जललवमुचः केन व वृष्टिहेतोः

जात्यैवेते परहितविधौ साधवो बद्धकक्ष्याः॥

वल्लभदेवस्य सुभाषितवल्याम् २८२

kasyādeśād kṣapayati tamaḥ saptasaptiḥ prajānāṁ

chāyāhetoḥ pathi viṭapināmañjaliḥ kena baddhaḥ|

abhyarthyante jalalavamucaḥ kena va vṛṣṭihetoḥ

jātyaivete parahitavidhau sādhavo baddhakakṣyāḥ||

The instinct to help others comes spontaneously for the noble souls..

1. Under whose order does the Sun sheds bright light over all the people and removes the darkness that encompasses the earth?

2. Does someone go and request with folded hands in all humility before the trees growing on the sides of the highway.. requesting for the shadow they provide in plenty?

3. Has anyone ventured to issue appeals to the water clouds spread over the sky to release at least a little water?

The conclusion is that noble people volunteer in all eagerness to provide selfless service for the benefit of other..

The message is very clear..

Usually people who claim to be engaged in charitable activity do so with many hidden expectations.. But really good persons just help others spontaneously..

We may not find many noble souls in our tedious journey of life.. And most of the time individually we may not be that noble and generous too..

But nature abounds in spontaneous goodwill..
