I will not read or watch things which are of no use to me.

Nowadays, I am tempted to ask myself...
Should I read every trash, rigamarole or lifted piece just because they appear on my home page..
It is not me but dancers in social media  who decide what should appear on the timeline and homepage..
In fact I have been rather obsessively faithful to some..
Therefore  I was trying to read and even like or comment on some such apparent  gospels..
Of course sometimes I called a spade a spade and invited many reactions starting with petulance and winding up with hatred..
Often it is the process of just catching hold of a snake which is on the fence, and putting it under one's dress and suffer..
Let the snakes remain in fence..
Snakes are in the fence, and all is right with me unless I invite them to nuzzle under my clothes..
If the material is bad, or if it is lifted, or if it is just back-scratching or "gooja" as they call it in Tamil. I get tensed up and my day is lost..
I have hundreds of books and other materials to read and enjoy.
Therefore,I have taken a major decision..
I will not read or watch things things which are of no use to me...
My sanity is far more valuable to me than the friends in the virtual world.. or the virtual friends..
Why should I invite headache, strain to the eye and often wisecracks without absolutely any purpose?
Anyway I am not a showman, nor a maker of friends..

Are we going back to the jungle? Anyway, even jungles have their rules.

An action cannot be categorized as right merely because I am interested in performing it.
Nor can it be termed as wrong because someone whom I do not exactly see eye to eye is performing it..

Right and wrong are relative, one may argue. However there are a lot of people walking around on this earth in addition to me, and we have evolved over time some basic and general truce on what is right or otherwise ..
And when the majority abide by the terms and conditions, and they have usually accepted it as working agenda, such terms should work for our own peace and peace of others.

Coming to think of it, marital fidelity, parental responsibility and even fairness in life and having generally accepted manners and lifestyle, are all part of this truce.

And often, as we evolve as a group, many of the traditions attain the force of law.
And some even assume that such laws have the endorsement of God

It is not difficult to ponder over these facts and accept them at intellectual level.

However, at emotional level our animal tendencies tend to raise their heads. And the impulsive urges inside a man man often defeats by the rational or reasonable one.

In a group, be it is of family, professional colleagues, compatriots and nd so on, we have the advantage that other in the group pull us back to realities of life when we tend to wander off.

However for some in social media, there are no bars attached. Except an arrogant and muddled mind and the keyboard, and a lighted console or a mobile screen perhaps in a dark backdrop.

This is an issue that should attract our attention.
Are we going back to the jungle?
Anyway, even jungles have their rules.

social media

In any system, almost ninety percent of the constituents just move on without much thinking.

Only a small portion of the rest, who have somewhat receptive minds, and some capacity to think, finally control the thought process of the total mass of people.

Many participnts in social media, freshers and peripheral players, are excited when their pictures, or the small posts or likes, are seen by a lot of people, when they get some kudos even for very small things..

However, as time goes on, the peripheral players either become active participants with greater application of mind and adherence to some cause right or wrong, or they just get consigned to the dustbin of obscurity or alternately they simply sign off..

I have been active in socialmedia since 1998 or so but was more active in platforms like Orkut .I have passed through the fresher phase decades ago and my existence here is highly detached..

I never get excited just by getting likes to a personal picture, or a post.I get excited or irritated only when my values are challenged or when people just put on masks of hollowness and of false pretensions..I was aggressive to the point of violence about such things at one stage, but now I can keep quiet now even on such issues.I do not subscribe to the idea that social media is just for fun.. In the end, the social conglomerate will have an impact in shaping the characters and values of discerning members, provided the platforms live on for long enough periods.

nothing is going to happen if an individual is angry or even leaves.

I would suggest that one should know and evaluate what he thinks and writes about.
More than getting piqued about someone criticizing about what one does he should ponder on the reason for such criticism.
The social media is huge and has millions of members.
So nothing is going to happen if an individual is angry or even leaves.
It is better to face criticism with an open mind and try to correct oneself as best as possible.
We cannot control the way the world at large would behave.
An open post will invite all sorts of comments .
Holding a person in high esteem or maintaining a friendship does not mean all the views and opinions of a person should be accepted and swallowed.
Public debate always calls for tolerance and respect for opposition.
No one has promised anyone that his posts will not be criticized.

I love social media, just because, I could read a lot here..

For a compulsive or a rather obsessive reader like me, the web and the social media are real boons..

Reading just for the love of words, reading for enjoyment, reading with affection.... that is an experience without match for an lover of words..

Reading in any language one knows, reading anything from poetry to pulp fiction, would give some sense of purpose to life, which can be too drab otherwise..

I remember reading from pieces of newspaper coming as packing material to grocery.. I remember reading cinema notices and song books.. half a century ago, and reaching blind alleys not being able to understand all that is written.. Still it was an experience..

But as the reading progresses, the music of the language, the rhythm of the grammar, just grows inside us.. When there is a wrong usage, a faulty spelling, a gruff word,...we just get uneasy, often very angry.. We may even blurt out something rather undiplomatic.. and it can be mistaken as arrogance.. It is the love of the language, love of rhythm that prompts us to cry out and not the persona of the author.. But that is never accepted that way

A lover of words, by his very nature, cannot keep quiet, especially when the language is mutilated.. Can one keep his calm when his sibling, friend or child is receiving bleeding gashes on their faces from the sharp fingernails of some naughty and inconsiderate peer?

I love social media, just because, I could read a lot here..
