manusmṛtyām 2-226
The preceptor or Guru is Brahma himself in person
Father is Prajapathi in person
Mother is the earth in person
and
The brother is just oneself in a different body..
This quote is found in some versions of Manusmriti.. And there is a claim too that this is not part of Manusmriti, but it is a prakshipta verse.. or interpolated verse..
Whether it is part of any smriti or not, the message conveyed is poignant..
The Guru is supreme like the ultimate deity himself.. We cannot think of challenging or disobeying the guru
Father is the one who made us what we are.. We simply grew from him.. So he is our maker, the Prajapathi.. The idea needs no elucidation
Mother is like earth.. patience, love, and eagerness to help and nurture even at the cost to herself..
And the brother.. he is just a second version of ourselves..
The message is... we cannot have any choice to dissociate from them or to love them less..

A man should treat the food he eats with great reverence.. he should even worshp it. He should eat food which is uncontaminated and is obtained through rightful means. The food should be such that a man should become happy immediately on seeing it, he should continue to be pleased afterwards and on eating it and he should be pleased to share it and also to talk about it very happily later on.
The food collected with care and with due reverence would provide great strength and sufficient energy for the person who ate the food. If the same food Is gobbled up without due respect and reverence due to it then that food would drain away the strength and energy of the person who eats it.

Do not get arrogant and careless and get the illusion that you are superior merely because you have been observing penance.
Do not tell lies or distort facts on the presumed position of strength that you have performed many superior rites like yajnas.
Do not venture to insult learned persons even if you are in a rundown condition physically or mentally. You should not take your misery as a licence to behave rudely with respectable persons.

In addition, never announce loudly or brag about the charitable activities conducted by you or the valuable gifts given by you.

This is an old slokam-one of the many indicating the code of conduct as per the traditions of our country.
A person who wishes the welfare of himself and all around him, should always move with utmost respect and do circumambulation (प्रदक्षिणं) when he in the presence of
1. Guru.. the preceptor
2.The Cow
3. Gods and deities ( in whatever form)
4. Hloy waters... teertham
5. Ghee ( because it is the source of health and is a primary ingredient for yajnas)
6. Honey ( reason as above)
7. The four-legged domestic animials
8. The revered trees of the forest ( may include even the herbs and other plants)
Pradakshinam is the show of ultimate reverence and of great discipline and self control in the presence of the most Venerated things.. And the inclusion of the products of nature in their pristine purity in the list of things to be respected would indicate the wisdom possessed by our ancestors.. Now we are setting up Green groups etc.. after the damage has already been done..

a checklist of strategies that a ruler should adopt

This is how a prince should go about in warfare.
Even though the fish is swimming in the stream with great speed and taking a very zigzag path in water, the Crane sitting patiently on the banks would watch with lase-sharp concentration the location of the fish, ready to scoop away the victim at the right moment. A ruler must watch the accumulation of the wealth of his adversary with the same attitude, his eyes ever on the treasury of other rulers.
Like a lion, which although very small compared to an elephant, would find adequate strength and resourcefulness even to attack a huge elephant and subjugate it, the Prince should use his skill and ernegies to muster all his strenght and act at the right moment
When a wolf is on the lookout for his victims among flock of sheep well guarded by a sheperd, it would be hovering around stealthily, watching every movement of the entire flock and the sheperd, and discover the right moment when a solirary sheep is separate from the group for some fleeting moments. The wolf will capitalize on this momentary separation, pounce upon the prey, and make a nice supper of it. The prince bent on gaining wealth too should infiltrate and take away what he can manage, in the same manner as the wolf does.
In addition, while on a combat mission, if the enemies surround the prince from all sides, when he either is in possession of the bounties or is on the verge of capture, he should use all his speed and strategies to take flight or jump, run and move in devious paths like a hare, and should avoid getting caught.
We see a checklist of strategies that a ruler should adopt by a ruler while in warfare. We can find it in Rajadharma Chapter of Mahabharatham and Mnusmriti too.

never give opinions freely and unsolicied

jānannapi hi medhāvī jaḍavalloka ācaret||
|ṁanusmṛtyām dvitīye adhyāye||

A wise and resourceful person should not give out his views and opinions in any matter unless an avid seeker requests for it.
In addition, even someone asks him for his views; he should express such views only if people raise the questions properly and justly and in the right context. This would mean that one should not express opinions for the consumption of people who are disrespectful, who are cynics or hecklers, who are asking for opinion just to laugh at the opinion and the speaker himself and insult him too..
A learned person should not express his opinion on an issue even if he has the knowledge and resources to do so, if the opinion is not going to serve its purpose.
The best way with neutral and disrespectful audience is for the learned persons to act as if he is not aware of anything and that he is naïve, and it is better that maintain stoic silence too..
This view is from Manusmriti. Chapter 2
I did not know about it. I was just wring on the subject the other day that only idiots and empty drums will give opinions in social media unasked.
Later on when I read some text, I discovered the above dictum from Manusmriti itself.

A man should, at any cost, protect and maintain his elderly parents, infirm and sick father, mother, or both, the faithful wife who depends on him for her very existence and an infant child in the household. He should ensure that he provides food and essential things for their survival even if he has to perpetrate unlawful or evil deeds or activities in his bid to find means for such sustenance. Thus said Manu

Manu does not encourage performance of sinful activities here. He only underlines the supreme importance of the duty of every man to look after with capacity to earn to ensure that those who depend on him exclusively-- like old parents, wife and small children

the person who caused insult, who behaved harshly would surely face ruin

sukhaṁ hyavamataḥ śete sukhaṁ ca pratibuddhyate|
sukhaṁ carati loke'smin avamantā vinaśyati||
manusmṛti haṁsagītā mahābharate ca

Our culture gives the ultimate priority to the dignity of an individual.
To insult a person, whatever may be the reason is considered a sin, a destructive trait..
The following quote from our texts, I could find the same quote in three great texts.. Manusmriti the premier law book of India, the great Indian epic Mahabharatham and in the philosophical text Hamsa Gita too. I am sure we would find the same other texts too.
That idea should be etched in the hearts of one and all.

The sloka says

A person who receives insults would sleep well after some time. In addition, he would wake up comfortably after that sleep too. In due course the slighted person would even go about with his work in the world happily that insult. On the other hand, the person who caused insult, who behaved harshly would surely face ruin

It is something like the wielder of the stick getting the thrashes..
Bad thoughts and feelings for others have the uncanny effieciency to land themselves upon the originator or the source and ruining it..
Sure, if we give empathy, respect, love and care in place of insult, we will get back the very same things, maybe with huge value addition..

A king who imposes levies on his subjects in the shape of taxes, tolls, duties, shares fines and penalties and fails to provide protection for the subjects and their lives and properties would find his place in hell. There is no doubt about it.
Manu warned that the rulers who tax the subjects and fail to protect them would go to hell and be punished because he had the bona fide belief such rulers in his time feared retribution in hell. The rulers of today may not care a damn about hell. But sure the leaders who fail the people would be dumped into the dustbin of history sooner than later

A teacher should never attempt to impart education in an environment where there are no resources and the student does not have a mind inclined towards righteousness. Knowledge should not be shared with persons who are not receptive, courteous and respectful. If knowledge is shared in such indifferent conditions and to such non responsive people, the action is like sowing seeds on barren fields. Nothing good will happen.

If a person gives false evidence regarding theft or misappropriation in respect of petty animals, he faces sin of destroying five human beings,, Such testimony in respect of cows and horses would incur sin equivalent to killing ten and hundred humans respectively. And a false testimony involving human being would attract sin of destroying thousand humans.
An example of structure of rigour of punishment visiting sinful activities, as per Manusmriti.

One should never show lack of diligence in movement of hands and legs and other limbs. One should never relax control in the movement and use of eyes. One should never lose control from the path of straightforward thoughts and actions. One should never set his mind on actions which would cause damage to others.
The limbs without control can hit, steal, visit wrong places and so on. Viewing unwanted or unpleasant things, being dishonest and causing pain to others would all result in bringing only sorrow and damage to oneself and to others too
