an Islamic verse in Tamil

this is part of a song on that Infinite Being..
He who resides in the heart of those who seek Him
He who feeds and nourishes even the non seekers and and non believers
He who relieves the pains of broken hearts and makes them happy
He who gives protection to everyone with great love and concern
He who enjoys the beauty of the ocean filled with waves, which He has Himself created
He who rules over the waves and the oceans
He who happily gives everything to those who bow their heads before Him in supplication
He who is the peerless Being who spreads over the entire universe and is ever present there..
Some of the epithets are just expressions of respect and love but the definition of the Universal Being, even above all attributes is present in these lines..
It is a question of Faith laced in the sweetness of love for that universal Father..
We can love Him or we can leave Him.. it is our choice..
Or is it ?

Athiripaatcha kozhukkattai story..

A son-in-law visits his mother in law and the latter in all affection prepares and feeds him with a lot of kozhukkattai (a very delicious food item..a deshi pancake).. Enamoured about the taste but ignorant of the name of the delicacy, the son in law asks for the name and is planning to go over to his place memorizing the name of Kozhakkattai so that he could mention the name to his wife and ask her to prepare the dish in plenty..He chants the word kozhukkattai enthusiastically all the way and travels from the place of MIL to his own wife's abode.. En route, he had to pass a bridge and an instant storm comes by.. He is chanting Kozhakkattai again and again but some people were warning that an ahiripaatcha storm ( an unexpected storm?) has overtaken them. In confusion, the littany of Kozhakkattai tuns into " Athiripatcha" and when the storm clears and the man reaches home the word Athirpatcha had replaced kozhukkattai.. and he hurriedly demands his wife to prepare Athiripatcha in the same style as her mother would do.. The lady is flabbergasted. She could not divine what her man was telling. She pleads ignorance and is beaten up and develops swellings over her body the size of kozhakkattai.. Later on the Mother In Law visits them to see her daughter and witnessing her miserable plight, demands the Son In Law why he has beaten up her daughter and caused swellings of the size of Kozhakkattai.. The word strike a chord in his mind and he tells his wife that what he wanted was "kozhakkattai".. Obviously not athiripaatcha.. Rest is left to imagination..

in silence we speak the most eloquent words

This is what the seer poet of Tamil, the ardent devotee of Murugan tells in Kandaranubhoothi.. He, in fact, recalled what his lord and Master Muruga instructed him.." keep quiet, forget words, thus He said, but I did not know the meaning of that at that moment"
Before becoming saint under the Divine influence of the God of Tamil Language Muruga, Arunagirinathar was leading a loose life, and a sudden shocking conversation with his sister made him realize the sins he was committing all the time, and he decided to put an end to his life by jumping from the tall tower of the Lord's Shrine in Tiruvannamalai.. But the Lord had other designs for him. The kind Lord caught the man jumping down with his outstretched hands and the transform
ed man the saint-poet Arungairinathar was born. But the mortal body was still living and the vasanaas would not leave him so easily.. For this the Lord advised hime to keep quite as quoted above. The poet transformed himself in silence to reach immortality through his vivid songs on Muruga,, and he is a legend in Tamilnadu and India.. All great things are born in Silence.
A prayer to Guru Dakshinamoorthy Shiva..
 tells everything..
the Lord is sitting underneath the Vatavriksha, in all His pristine youth and the disciples, who are all wizened old sages, sit around Him. The guru communicates to the disciples in silence through chimudra and the doubts of the disciples vanish..
Yes, in silence we speak the most eloquent words..
Whenever and wherever possible we have to know how to withdraw ourselves into complete silence, and in that silence will gain the power to look at everything including our own existence in a freshly enlightened manner.. All yogas and meditation techniques are finally meant to train us for this .

sang Bharatiyar
I see your black hue in the wings of a crow, oh the darling of Nandagopa

Kumaran aasaan the great poet of malayalam said..

kanne matanguka karinjumalinjumaasu mannakumii malaru vismruthamaakumippol,
enniitukaarkkum ithuthan gathi saukhyamentu kanneerinaal avani vaazhvu kinavu kashtam..
My eyes, you withdraw yourself from enjoying the beauty of this flower, because in the span of a few minutes or, may be  hours, the flower will fade, become unattractive and turn into sod and shall be forgotten for ever..
Beware, this is the fate for all living beings on the earth...it is meaningless to shed tears,

life is but a dream, an illusion...

So Krishna created this stunning beauty for a very short time to sit on the plant and give pleasure to the eyes of others. Why should we pluck it and shorten its lifetime?

troubles come in torrents

kṣate prahārā nipatantyabhīkṣṇamannakṣaye varddhati jāṭharāgniḥ|
āpatsu vairāṇi samudbhavanti vāme vidhau sarvamidaṁ narānāṁ||
viṣṇuśaramaṇaḥ pañcatantre labdhapraṇāśāt|

A thought-provoking stanza from Panchatantram..
" If you are already injured  and trying to recover soon, be sure that there will be repeated hits visiting the same wound, never allowing it to heal.

When there is scarcity of food grains all over, the fire of hunger in you and your family gets kindled with redoubled vigour.. making your  whole existence miserable.
When you are facing dangers, you will not be allowed to face it alone, but all old sundry and miscellaneous enemies will join you in   attacking you from all sides, ensuring your complete annihilation.
When fate is not on your right side, he never stops with single blows but ensures that you are attacked  by all that is past and present and may be by all that is to come in the future also,
It is said in tamil
"patta idathil padum, ketta kutiye kedum  பட்ட இடத்தில் படும், கெட்ட குடியே கெடும்.. the spot where you are injured   will get repeatedly sustain injuries, and a family already  facing problems would receive more and more problems.
The Murphy's law "If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong" is amply reinforced by the above ancient dictum of India.

Fine arts and music are divine

a person with  no taste for literature, music and fine arts is  virtually a cow or some similar animal, with the only difference that the former has no tail or horns.  It is indeed very fortunate for the animals  that such persons do not start eating grass for food because if it happens the horned animals will have to die of starvation.
This sloka is found in some versions of Neetisatakam of Bharthruhari.
Our traditions are so great that every god in Hindu pantheon is adorned with a musical instrument.  The lord of Lords, the Nataraja, is an adept in playing Dakkaa and Damaru... In fact the Indian alphabets are said to have emanated from the Lord Shiva's fingerings on the percussion instrument fourteen times. It is described as under.
On conclusion of his tandavanritta, the emperor of dancers, Lord Nataraja with a view to enlighten the great sages like Sanaka, played nine and five times in his Dakka...(udukku the small drum held in his hand) and out came the shivasuutraas, which were later on adopted as the basis for the entire philology and phonetics of India.. The great grammarian Paanini starts his aphorisms with these suutras.

Lord Krishna's constant companion was his  flute..He mesmerized the damsels and the mortals and in-animates in Brindavan and the whole universe with his sweet breath emanating  through the divine flute.  Leelasuka or Bilvamangala swamigal  prays to this flute..

You sweet flute, you are in constant  company with the sweet musical breath from Mukunda's lips at one tip of yours and you have his ears at the other tip. I offer pranams to you and beg to you.. When you are held near the gems of those lips, please be kind enough to whisper on His ears about the miserable state I am in.. so that He will shower his mercy upon me.

In Srimannaaraayaneeyam the Dashakam 69 on raasakriida is completely devoted to music and dance.

A bunch of peacock feathers adorning the beautiful locks of hair; a pair of fish shaped earrings dangling from the ears; many necklaces intermingled with flower garlands adorning the neck; a golden girdle fastened to the yellow silk garment adorning the waist; sandal paste and other unguents smeared on the body emitting strong fragrance; gem studded anklets flashing forth a glow; on such a radiant form of Thee, with decorations appropriate for the Raasa, we meditate on.

I prostrate before Shyaamala, the daughter of maatanga....she nestles on her bosom a veena made of maanikya gem, she is supremely happy and relaxed , her words are very sweet and she is resplendent in the brighntess of  indraneela (peacock blue).

The great poet Jayadeva is very vocal in describing the dance of Krishna in Gita govindam.

In this springtime gentle vernal breezes from Mount . M alaya, the abode of sandalwood trees, that swivel round the slim tendrils of clove gillyflower plants and the  breeze hovers  gently, interwoven with both the fragrances... in this springtime that has bowers made lively with the intermingled buzzes of honeybees swarm and croons of Kokila throngs... that Krishna whom you are seeking is gloriously frolicking and dancing with young girls  in Brindavan right at this moment, for this is spring, isn't it...  therefore, come on... let's go... lovelorn people are unrequited, otherwise... [astapadi  3-1]

This song has great significance in the life of the great poet Arunagirinathar.  The saint poet had a debate with one Sambanthaandan in the court of king Praputa Devaraya in Thiruvannamalai  and when challenged to bring the Lord to the court failing which the saint's life was at stake, the poet sang his song and loving this Murugan appeared atop his peacock dancing merrily and gave darshan to all.

This is  from the coverstaion of an old man (Dhritharaasthra) with the blessed lord Krishna.
" Advanced age is  a great difficulty.  Decline in wealth also makes one miserable.
The loss of a son  or separation from him  is still more heartbreaking.
But  the misery that tops all other miseries is hunger"
The pathetic truth contained herein would strike one like a thunderbolt.   One gets old and his physical and mental faculties get depleted.  In such a doddering condition usually the source of income also stops.(pensioners are slightly luckier).  This is the time when one is in need of the soothing hands of a son.  But alas,  this is the exact  time when the son grows up and becomes self-sure.. The youth can be lost in battles and other calamities or can leave one either in estrangement or in search of livelihood.
But the greatest suffering is when one is deprived of food.
Hunger was the cause of all major revolutions in human history.
