To have faith in that God, we do not require any religion or any rituals.

Why do not we try to understand that God is just the entity.. representing all that is good, great, loveable, sublime, mercliful, and in short all that is not evil or treacherous..

In fact the principle of God was conceived by man to tell that alone..

Names, shapes, rituals, really do not matter..

Who can fight in the name of that God?

God is beyond definition

God is beyond definition.. therefore, He can be anything.. or IT can be anything..

 I feel God also resides in a mind which can thing beyond dogmas.. 

Stating that God is a bundle of energy, IMHO is like being prisoner to a particular idea.. Shankara in one of his prayers seeks apology from God for having attempted to see the Divine presence in an idol alone.. 

I just wanted to convey with great respect that teacher stands at an equal level or even at a higher level than God.. the God that we conceive at our emotional level..

You say God is a bundle of energy, my beloved friend, but can a normal being feel comfortable with such a God..

I am not intending to indulge in a religious discussion on rhetoric..

If we go by the definitions of the traditional advaitam etc., then lifestyle management is not a part of Vedanta, whatever anyone says.. 

However,  if by the term  Vedanta   we mean to indicate   the real and idealistic life principle, any explanation  can be fitted into the definition.. 

We face similar problems of many inclusive definitions,   "socialism"  being an example.. 

Of course an attempt to keep emotions under tight reins is a good idea for internal and external peace, whether such attempt forms part of Vedanta or not. 

Anyway it is easier said than done. 

The surge of emotions is dependent not only on mental states but is definitely related to biological factors like health, endocrine flows and many such things not strictly under the control of man. 

Definitely faith in God can take us a long way in keeping ourselves composed emotionally.

Gods mentioned in the Vedas alone are worth mention

Kalidasa was a poet.. and a very sharp intellectual..

He was not bound by any scriptures..

He could draw inspiration from any texts or other lore available, and could draw from his own rich and fertile poetic imagination..

Basically, I do not subscribe to the view that Gods mentioned in the Vedas alone are worth mention..

I think Lord Pasupathy and Mother Goddess were worsipped even in Harpaan civilization, which is supposed to have preceded the Vedas..

The tantric literature played an equally important role as Vedas especially in the evolution of Shakthi cult..

Many of of the major mantras in Vidya traditions cannot be related or even remotely traced to even Atharva Veda, not to speak of Rk, Yajus and Saman..

Shakti traditions were even influenced by Budhistic and Jain texts and agamas ( Jain agamas are different from what we see in Hinduism)..

नारायणायेति समर्पयामि

That idea is multi dimensional.

The physical mental and intellectual faculties that put us in action are provided by Him.. at least the devotee thinks so.

So the finished product created through such acton is just reconveyed in His favour.

It is just repayment of some loan taken.

It is not our gift or benevolence to Him

our sense organs have their limits for cognizance...they can view, hear or sense happenings only within certain limits

 

Our perception is essetially  the result of our faculties of cognizance and maybe, they have limitations...

God was, is and will be present for ever, everywhere and nowhere. Inside, outside and anywhere...

However, our sense organs have their limits for cognizance...they can view, hear or sense happenings only within certain frequency ranges or within certain parameters..

Krishna is there within those limits and is also present beyond..

We attempt to understand The Universal thing is according to our capacities..

Therefore every idea is correct when it comes to our effort in perceiving Krishna..

A friend asked whether GOD meant Generater, Observer and Destroyer.

My take on it

That is only a popular concept. It is not given like that in any shastra. or any texts

In Hinduism we have three principal male Gods Brahma the creator Vishnu the ruler and sustainer and Shiva the destroyer.

Of course these three combine as the powerful divine force|

And for the creator great knowledge is necessary..So Brahma's devi is Saraswathi.

For administration or Observation wealth is essential..So vishnu's wife is Lakshmi

and

for destruction immense power is in great use..So Shivas consort is uma the Shakthi.

And Brahmas sons are the great scholars.. Sanatkumaras

Vishnus son is the God of love.. Kamadeva..

And

Shivas Son is the God of War, the Commander in Chief of the Army of Gods.. Subramania Karthikeya.

Remember, we can travel only if there is a road.

With utter humility, I have to state that I was surviving all though my life only on the strength of Bhakthi yoga.

That is absolute faith in the Divinity.

The names given to God are many.. Krishna, Murugan, Devi, Jesus, Allah etc., but then I do not know what is the name of God or what is His form..

But I trust He is kind, and He is walking ahead of us showing the way holding a candle to light each step of ours...

I have different perception about yoga.

Yoga was not conceived as a physical exercise at all, in our way of life.

It is a path to hold the wandering mind in tight rein to enable it to focus on the path which we avidly follow.

Maybe our thrust area is our profession, gaining riches, or finding happiness in material possession.

Alternately it may be pursuit of deeper meanings in life and discovery of godhead..

Every path is right.

No one can tell anyone else that some path is right or wrong.

Every path followed with sense of purpose and perseverence would lead us to our goals, and a work well done, a life well lived would lead us, to God, and God alone. I speak from conviction.

The ailments to the body as also pleasures we face at physical plane have their limitations.

Shelley talked about love's sad satiety.

Remember, we can travel only if there is a road, and if there no road at sight,you will have to find one through His bounteous grace.

He who resides in the heart of those who seek Him

He who feeds and nourishes even the non seekers and and non believers

He who enjoys the beauty of the ocean filled with waves, which He has Himself created

He who rules over the waves and the oceans

He who happily gives everything to those who bow their heads before Him in supplication

He who is the peerless Being who spreads over the entire universe and is ever present there..

Some of the epithets are just expressions of respect and love but the definition of the Universal Being, even above all attributes is present in these lines..

It is a question of Faith laced in the sweetness of love for that universal Father..

We can love Him or we can leave Him.. it is our choice..

आर्ताः विषण्णाः शिथिलाश्च भीताः घोरेषु च व्याधिषु वर्तमानाः

aarthaaH vishannaaH shithilaashcha bheetaaH ghoreshu cha vyadhishu vartamaanaaH 

sankeertya naaraayana shabdamaatram vimukta dukhaaH sukhino bhavanti

Those who are in dire need for relief from pain,

those who are miserable,

those who are mentally shattered,

those who are in panic,

those who are afflicted by serious ailments,

all those become relieved of the pain and misery,

and are blessed with great relief...

We cannot bring ourselves to think of God without His consent and help

one can make his mind to choose meditation only if that Supreme Being permits him to do so..

We cannot bring ourselves to think of God without His consent and help.. Our first entreaty, prayer and request to the Supreme Being should be that He may be pleased to grant us permission to seek his help..

God wants a place all for Himself, and if our mind is occupied by pride and arrogance, how can God come and stay there?

we have to be grateful to our Maker

 

If you believe in Hinduism, you have to accept the basic precept that we are born with at least three debts pitru deva and manava or bhutha. We cannot deny our indebtedness there and so the concept that we need not be thankful cannot be fully right. We enjoy the products of earth we breathe the air and is it that we need not be thankful because we did not ask for air etc?

We cannot simply live even a moment without divine mercy and help from others. We cannot ignore that fact simply saying that we did not ask for it.

Moreover, the pricing system in nature is so unbalanced. We can never give back in equal quantity the real value of anything or any favour we have received.

A benefit is a benefit whether we get it by asking for it or have received it free.

As for reporting --we have to appreciate that even though a government or a higher authority can often learn about the developments below them still they demand reports and feedbacks. The same ratio might apply in respect of our transactions with the Maker too.

If we are attempting to reach a stage where we need not thank God then we either are playing god or we are just atheists.

In the case of an atheist, the very concept of god is irrelevant.

We chant Gayatri and worship Sandhya three times a day because it we feel that our energy level is waning and our batteries call for constant recharging.

Even sannyasins have to offer worship of Sandhya even when they have no attachments in life.

I am not able to agree to the idea that we need not be thankful to God because he is sustaining us even if we do not ask for it.

A newborn child does not ask its mother to look after it. Is that a reason that when he grows up he need not be thankful to the mother?

That the eternal Lord is residing in every one of us.

 

त्वयि मयि सर्वत्र एको विष्णुः कथं नु कुप्यसि मय्यसहिष्णुः

tvayi may sarvatra eko vishnuH

katham nu kupyasi mayi asahishnuH

aacharya swamigal (Shankara Bhagavatpada) said..

"the same Vishnu resides in you and me,

So why are you angry and intolerant with me? "

If this realization comes, then there is only one pride...

That the eternal Lord is residing in every one of us..

If that is so, why should there be any comparison?

Moreover, thinking ourselves as the abodes of God Narayana...

It is the sum and substance of the life or existence of any being..

Moreover, is that pride?

If so that pride is sublime.

Prayer and worship to God are personal choices.

Prayer is a matter between the one who prays and the One who receives and perhaps answers the prayer.

Of course, many innocent persons are having no clue as to how to pray.

In fact, there are no rules for prayer.

A child seeks for the breast of its mother for feeding and the mother in turn thrusts the nipple into the partly open mouth of the newborn.

There are no rulebooks prescribing this.

In addition, God-we can turn to Him in utter curiosity and supplication- and sure, He will thrust His love on us-perhaps even if we try to reject Him. We can always tell God what bothers us, what pleases us, what we want, and we can trust that He will respond favourably to our reasonable prayers.

God, our relation, and I is such a simple affair.

However, to make long list of rules and procedures for connecting with God, and posing as guides or gurus, seeking presents or Daksinas directly or indirectly for this purpose, using mild, moderate, or major threats to the effect that if the disciple does not follow the methods he prescribed, there will be punishment and that heaven will fall down. Such activities are all simply busines, exploitation, and patently full of lies too.

If we follow them eagerly and are even eager to expose ourselves to exploitation, even God cannot save us from these guides, gurus and quacks.

It is okay if we study with reverence, the way people with experience and empathy connect with god and it is not incorrect to follow the same methods. It is nice if we try to connect with God the way our parents, grandparents and relatives did.

However, connecting with God and God itself is a unique experience.

Not any rulebook, not any chant or litany, written or chanted, is the ultimate choice.

We should not mistake the straw we use as the sweet beverage we consume.

What triggered my thoughts is the proliferation of the so-called web gurus who prop up their publicity with new campaigns giving advice in the old ways of acharam, aaharam and so on.

It is just business. If one has spare money, he can indulge in such mass hysteria too.

The self proclaimed atheists are something like this..

Their lives resemble the story of the gatekeepers of Vaikundam.. Jaya and Vijaya who were cursed for expulsion from Vaikunta by sages Sanatkumaras..

Jaya and Vijaya were given the choice being Vishnubhaktas(staunch devotees of the lord, which they already are) for ten lives and return to Vaikuntam

or livings as enemies of the Lord for three lives and return to Vaikuntam..

They chose constant enmity with the lord in their sojourn away from Vaikuntam because, as enemies they would remember Narayana ever..

And in turn, they took births as

Hiranyaksha and HiranyaKashipu,

Ravana and Kumbhakarna,

and

Shishupala and Dantavaktra..

and all courted enmity of the Lord..

and were killed in direct combats with the Lord..

Varaha killed Hiranyaksha, Narasimha killed Hiranyakahipu,

Ravana and Kumbhakarna were slain by Rama

and

Shishupala and Dantavaktra met their death at the hands of Krishna..

And they returned to Vaikundam in just three lives..

Atheiests seem to be more like these demonish manifestations.

God does not behave like a socialist or egalitarian

God does not behave like a socialist or egalitarian.. Each minor speck created by him is unique. In addition, Nano and sub Nano physics and optics would prove that no two things are similar. Moreover, there is no reason to believe that everything created by god should be equally good and equally useful. Good and bad, both are His creations. The people who appreciate and enjoy better creations would praise them and they will remark or react negatively about things that are bad or inconvenient. That is natural human tendency.

However much we would like to canvas the ideas about everything being good, and god being ever benevolent, we have no convincing proof to fortify that idea..

The presumption of innate benevolence of the Supreme One seems to be a lifesaving, confidence trick adopted by us..

God creates everything, even the virus causing AIDS. At least we believe so. That does not anyway make it mandatory that we should like or tolerate such things too.

Comparison and evaluation of relative merits of object and issues is a very natural process.

By no logic or poetics, we can ever place a hollow bamboo piece on an equal footing with a piece of sandalwood.

Normally we rub a piece of Sandalwood to get sandal paste. But a bamboo stick can give a flute, and it can be used to make a baton or lathi which can break the skull of a fellow too.

 Therefore, by any standards, the bamboo does not compare positively with sandalwood.

Moreover, when a poet attempts to make comparisons, he just compares only the overwhelmingly superior merits. That need not imply that the lesser object has completely negative value or nil value.

Even Rama and Krishna had their shortcomings, and Ravana and Kamsa had some positive traits.  Anyway as a balancing act, we praise Rama and Krishna and condemn Ravana and Kamsa. That is quite natural.

In religion, what would work for me is good for me

There is one enigma..

We just assume some persons who suffer deserve better treatment by God.

However, is our evaluation of such poor and helpless factual?

Perhaps those who are suffering are in such an abysmal state, and perhaps God is propping them up with all His mercy.

Perhaps, if His help were not there, the sufferers would have been in a much worse state.

We can make a judgement about God only if we really have a measure of the mess the so-called deserving persons have created for themselves by accumulating so much of toxin in themselves.

We are trying to measure God; we either praising or berating Him, based on what is apparent to our eyes.

Our vision can be limited, our exposure to the targets of God's help or lack of it is limited. In short, our judgment cannot be error free for so many reasons.

Therefore we do not have adequate data to judge that God, if such a God is there, is lacking in Mercy for His creations, or that God is not fair to all..

Moreover, when fate closes every other door, if it opens the door of Faith, even if it is virtual or illusory, if it can just sustain our sanity, why should we not have such faith?

If one can depend on intoxicating drinks to maintain sanity in worst cases, if people use even opium and morphine to relieve excruciating pain in terminal cases, is there really anything wrong in having some faith too, if such faith can remove some pain?

We really do not know about others and their thoughts and action, we just do not know---

Even our closest associates and relatives are strangers to us in many ways.

So how do we judge their private virtues and sins and consequently judge God’s action in either granting rewards or meting out punishments?

In religion, what would work for me is good for me... We cannot compare or exchange notes in this matter.
