the vital most part of the body is the head

Of all the human organs, the eyes are the most important. Of the six types of tastes the most significant is the salty one. Of all the waters circulating on the face of earth, the water flowing in rivers is the most beneficial. And the most important part of the body is obviously the head.

The merits earned by a person through his righteous and magnanimous actions would definitely come to his rescue
Even if he is wandering without any sense of direction in a forest
Even if he is facing great challenge in a battle
Even if he is surrounded by enemies
Even if he is about to drown in a lake
Even if he is marooned in the midst of an ocean
Even if he has landed up without any help at the peak of a mountain
Even if he is dreaming
Even if he is inebriated or even mad
Even if he is overcome by grief
A very categorical assertion by Bhartruhari
A good mind, good actions, and a life well lived, will not go unnoticed and unrewarded

do not visit empty handed...

riktahastena nopeyād rājānaṃ devatāṃ guruṃ॥

neetisshastram  in telugu

Two important Subhashitams were found underlining the fact that when we go on a visit to certain type of people we should carry with us some presents for them and our hands should not be empty.

=========
the meaning of the first slokam found in Vedantasara as a quote from Vikramacharitham

When we go to visit
the king..
the God..

the Guru. the teacher
. the seer or the astrologer..
a small child..
a friend..
we should not go empty handed..
We should take some present with us ..
at least a fruit..
Because our journeys shall fruitful only when we offer some fruit or something fruitful..
=========
The purpose of the visit may be asking for some favour or for showing our affection..
Either way we want to see the person whom we visit to be in a happy mood..
A present, however tiny would be welcome because the recepient would definitely sense our care and concern for them through such gits..
That should brighten up the spirits of any normal human being..

The meaning of the second slokam found in Subhashita Ratna Bhaandaagaram, Mahaasubhaashita Sangraham and Neetisaaram (in Telugu)
is

We should not go empty handed to a visit a place

Where agnihotram or regular oblations to fire are being performed.

When we visit a residence

When we visit an agricultural field

When we visit a place where a pregnant lady is present

When we pay a visit to a place where either elderly people of smaal children are present

When we seek an audience with the king

When we visit the presence of a Deity for worship

When we approach a guru

Some activist and votaries for corruption free transactions may frown upon this idea

And there are prigs.. their number is on the increase, who declare their uprightness and independence by printing on marriage and other invitations that presents are to be avoided..

What a nonsense..
Our culture demands offering of presnets on happy occasions..
The presents and gifts symbolize love and care..

The persons who hand over invitation cards with the warning
" kindly avoid presents"
or the same ides with some slightly polished words like
" presents in blessings only" ,
are just delivering unkind slaps on the face of the guests and near and dear whom they invite

A present is a token of affection and care..
It need not be bribe or inducement..
This is not to justify illegal gratification being camouflagued as presents..
But we are a cultured lot..
We should know and usually we know where to draw the line..

the secret of youth

vasantayauvanāḥ vṛkṣāḥ puruṣāḥ dhanayauvanāḥ|
saubhāgyayauvanāḥ nāryo budhāḥ vidyāsu yauvanāḥ||
nītiśāstre

A quote from a compilation of wise thoughts.. Nitishastram

Youth.. or being young and active is more dependent on the state of life.. and attitude.. that the mere count of days and years..

Even if the trees have existed for centuries, they look young in new foliage and fruits.. with lots of people singing and dancing underneath... and lots and lots of birds occupying their branches.. as the spring season arrives.

Men can maintain their confidence only if they have money..
And youth is the state of confidence..
So when they are flush with money, when their pockets are overflowing, they remain young.

For ladies, youth lie in peace and happiness in the family and in the good fortune of all people around.. and as long as such bliss continues, they maintain their youth

And for a person with unquenchable thirst for knowledge, the only prod that can keep him young and active is the facility and the enthusiasm to learn more and more..

May such youth.. such blessings for the youth remain with the world for ever and ever..

Analysis.
वृक्षाः trees
वसन्त यौवना भवन्ति are at the peak of their youth and vitality when spring is the season
पुरुषाः men
धन यौवनाः वर्तन्ते look young and sprightly as long as they have money to spend
नार्यः ladies
सौभाग्य यौवनाः शोभन्ते shine as if they are young if they have happiness, good fortune and grace
बुधाः learned people
विद्यासु यौवनाः भवन्ति. remain young as long as they are learning new arts and crafts to their hearts' content..

With the arrival of spring season all trees are covered by foliage but the Karira tree gets no leaves, is it the fault of Spring season?
When the sun rises, the owl is not able to see, is it the fault of the sun?
A lot of clouds form and pour rain but all the rain does not fall into the mouth of the  chakora bird which is wailing for rainwater. It is definitely not the fault of the rain-clouds.
Whatever is written by the fate on the forehead  of a being at its birth is indelible.  Who is having the capacity to erase that document?.

Bhartruhari in his Neetishatakam   is emphasizing the power of fate.  It is our belief that ones fate is already recorded indelibly on his forehead.. And  this premeditated enactment cannot be amended by any force in the world.   The bamboo leaves are sparse in spring, the owl is blind during the daytime and the mythological chakora bird which is always looking up and wailing at the clouds in the sky for rain to pour  and is keeping its mouth open in expectation that all the rain will fall into its open mouth is in for disappointment. Only a few drops may fall on its open mouth that too by chance.  The crafty Brahmadeva had already recorded the fate of everyone on the respective forehead (may be the record will be large if one has a bald pate) and there is no way of circumventing the dicta of fate.
Elsewhere we might have read,  harinaapi harenapi brahmanaapi surairapi, Lalaatey likhitha rekha sakyathey kena  maarshtithum.
It is also said, alanghaneeyaa kamalasanaajna.

Even for Vishnu Siva,  Brahma, or the devas, the writing on the forehead is impossible of erasure.

The orders of the occupant of the lotus seat ( Brahma) cannot be circumvented.
The philosopher king  talks about the inevitability of the vagaries of fate and also  indicates the futility of one's action in blaming others for once or misfortune.
If your gold ornament is having  more copper and tin,, what is the use or purpose in  assaulting the goldsmith?

note
गूढपत्रे मरुभूमिजे उष्ट्र-प्रियेवृक्षभेदे (भावप्रकाशे)   Vaachaspatyam quotes Bhavaprakasham  defining kareera tree as  a tree growing in desert,  the leaves of such tree are rarely visible, and  the tree is the favourite of camels
