करोतु तादृशीं प्रीतिं यदृशी नीरपङ्कयोः।
रविणा शोषिते नीरे पङ्कदेहो विशीर्यते॥
karotu tādṛśīṁ prītiṁ yadṛśī nīrapaṅkayoḥ|
raviṇā śoṣite nīre paṅkadeho viśīryate||

The deep affection and bondage that should be developed between true friends should like what happens between mud and water. When the mud is soaked in water, the mixture remains so supple and big. However, when the lump of mud soaked in water is exposed to sunlight and the sun evaporates the water, then the lump of mud just get shattered into dust.
Here the two friends are so close and are completely devoted to one another that when one becomes weak the other just withers away.
കരോതു താദൃശീം പ്രീതിം യദൃശീ നീരപങ്കയോഃ।
രവിണാ ശോഷിതേ നീരേ പങ്കദേഹോ വിശീര്യതേ॥
മഹാസുഭാഷിത സംഗ്രഹം ൮൭൯൪ -- സുഭാഷിത മഞ്ജരി
രണ്ടു പേര് യഥാര്ത്ഥത്തില് ഉറ്റ ചങ്ങാതിമാര് ആണെങ്കില് അവര് തമ്മിലുള്ള ബന്ധവും തമ്മില്തമ്മില് ഉള്ള കരുതലും വെള്ളവും ചെളിയും പോലെ ആയിരിക്കണം. വെള്ളത്തില് കുതിര്ന്നു കിടക്കുമ്പോള് ചെളി ഒരു വലിയ കട്ടയായി നീണ്ടു നിവര്ന്നു നില്ക്കും. പക്ഷെ വെയില് ഏറ്റു ചെളിയോടുകൂടെയുള്ള വെള്ളം ആവിയായി പോകുമ്പോള് ആ ചെളിക്കട്ട വെറും പൂഴിയായി തകര്ന്നു വീഴും.
ഇവിടെ ഈ രണ്ടു സുഹൃത്തുക്കള് വളരെ അടുപ്പത്തിലാണ്. ഒരാള്ക്ക് കോട്ടം വരുമ്പോള് മറ്റെയാളും തകര്ന്നുപോകുന്നു.
