knows how to destroy but never to rebuild

 

घातयितुमेव नीचः परकार्यं वेत्ति न प्रसाधयितुम् ।

पातयितुमस्ति शक्तिर्वायोः वृक्षं न चोन्नमितुम् ॥

-पञ्चतंत्र

ghātayitumeva nīcaḥ parakāryaṃ vetti na prasādhayitum ।

pātayitumasti śaktirvāyoḥ vṛkṣaṃ na connamitum ॥

-pañcataṃtra

The wicked fellow always knows how to thwart or destroy the endeavours or labours of others. However he does not have either the mind or the capacity to support or assist others in furthering their interests.

The wind blows with great strength and it is capable of uprooting huge trees and throw them down. But the same wind cannot help a tree which has fallen in rising up and taking roots on the earth once again.

नीचः the wicked person परकार्यं the work and welfare of other घातयितुं to destroy एव only, alone वेत्ति know न प्रसाधयितुं not to encourage, not to support and enhance . वायोः for the win वृक्षं the tree पातयितुं to bring down, to fell शक्तिः power अस्ति. Is there उन्नामितुं to raise, to bring up, to jack up न च not indeed शक्तिः power अस्ति is there

ഘാതയിതുമേവ നീചഃ പരകാര്യം വേത്തി ന പ്രസാധയിതും ।

പാതയിതുമസ്തി ശക്തിര്‍വായോഃ വൃക്ഷം ന ചോന്നമിതും ॥

ദുഷ്ടനായ മനുഷ്യന് മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ എന്തെങ്കിലും കാര്യം നല്ല വിധത്തില്‍ പരിശ്രമിച്ചു ചെയ്തു തീര്‍ക്കാന്‍ ഒരുമ്പെടുകയാണെങ്കില്‍ അക്കാര്യം മുടക്കുവാനോ പാരവച്ച് നശിപ്പിക്കുവാനോ ഉള്ള കഴിവ് ധാരാളം ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും പക്ഷെ ആ ദുഷ്ടന് എന്തെങ്കിലും ഒരു നല്ല കാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവരെ ഏതെങ്കിലും വിധത്തില്‍ സഹായിക്കുവാനോ അത്തരം കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ താല്പര്യങ്ങള്‍ സംരക്ഷിക്കുവാനോ ഉള്ള മനസ്സ് ഒരിക്കലും ഉണ്ടാവില്ല. അത്തരം നല്ല കാര്യങ്ങളില്‍ എന്തെങ്കിലും സഹായം നല്‍കുവാനുള്ള കഴിവും ദുഷ്ടന് ഉണ്ടാവുകയില്ല.

കാറ്റ് ഏറെ ശക്തിയോടെ വീശുന്നു. വമ്പന്‍ മരങ്ങളെ കടപുഴക്കി വീഴുത്തുന്നു. പക്ഷെ അതെ കാറ്റിന് വീണുപോയ വമ്പന്‍ മരത്തെ വീണ്ടും ഉയര്‍ത്തി നിര്‍ത്താനോ ആ മരത്തിനു വീണ്ടും വേര് പിടിക്കാന്‍ സഹായിക്കാനോ ഒരിക്കലും കഴിയില്ല.
