न हि मलयचन्दनतरुः परशुहतः स्रवति पूयम्

अपमानितोऽपि कुलजो न वदति पारुष्यं स्वभावदाक्षिण्यात्।

न हि मलयचन्दनतरुः परशुहतः स्रवति पूयम्॥

apamānito'pi kulajo na vadati pāruṣyaṁ svabhāvadākṣiṇyāt|

na hi malayacandanataruḥ paraśuhataḥ sravati pūyam||

A classy person would not utter cruel and unkind words even if he is subjected to repeated insults. The reason for that restraint is his innate superiority of character.

It may be noticed that even if a sandalwood tree is deeply cut by an axe, the discharges oozing out of its bark would be of heavenly fragrance. A sandal tree cannot give out filth, for any reason.
