अर्थेप्सुता परं दुःखं अर्थप्राप्तौ ततोऽधिकम्।
जातस्नेहस्य चार्थेषु विप्रयोगे महत्तरम्॥
महाभारते आदिपर्वे॥
arthepsutā paraṁ duḥkhaṁ arthaprāptau tato'dhikam|
jātasnehasya cārtheṣu viprayoge mahattaram||

Intense yearning for money is a veritable source for sorrow and heartburn
The money earned causes sorrow by giving one great challenges in the process of retaining what one has earned.
And the man develop a fetish-like attachment to the money he has earned and accumulated and there can be no greater sorrow than being forced to part with some cash, even if such spending is for some worthy purpose.
