My dear one, the mind sinks to lower depths when it get associated with lowly people. When the mind comes in contact with minds of average merits, it also behaves at an average level matching the mediocrity of the interacting mind. When the same mind is fortunate to have the proximity and interaction with eminent and noble minds, it too attains nobility and pre-eminence.
In the case of people who are endowed with nobility, attainment of even a little more merit becomes praiseworthy. It is like a tiny drop of oil falling on the surface of sweet, clean, pure water. The tiny speck of oil spreads all over the surface of water
(We know that if water is impure and its surface is contaminated then the oil falling on its surface cannot spread so freely)

സുഹൃത്തെ, ഒരാളുടെ മനസ്സ് തരം താണ മനുഷ്യരുമായി ഇടപഴകുമ്പോള് അത്തരം വ്യക്തികളുടെ തരത്തിലേയ്ക്ക് കാലക്രമേണ അധഃപതിക്കുന്നു. ശരാശരി ഗുണങ്ങളും കഴിവുകളും പ്രദര്ശിപ്പിക്കുന്ന മനസ്സുകലുമായുള്ള തുടര്ച്ചയായ ഇടപഴകലുകള് നമ്മുടെ മനസ്സിനേയും അതുപോലെ ശരാശരി ഗുണങ്ങള് ഉള്ള നിലയില് കെട്ടിയിടുന്നു.
ഏറെ മഹത്വവും ഉയര്ന്ന ചിന്താഗതിയും നിറഞ്ഞു നില്ക്കുന്ന മനസ്സുകലുമായുള്ള ഇടപഴകലിന് നമുക്ക് ഭാഗ്യം സിദ്ധിക്കുമ്പോള് നമ്മുടെ മനസ്സും ഉയര്ച്ചയിലേയ്ക്ക് കുതിച്ചുയരും.
നൈസര്ഗ്ഗികമായി നന്മയും ഗുണങ്ങളും കൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞു നില്ക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തിക്ക് പുതിയതായി വളരെ ചെറിയ നേട്ടങ്ങള് എന്തെങ്കിലും കൈ വരികയാണെങ്കില് പോലും അത് വളരെ ശോഭിക്കുകയും എല്ലാവരും അത്തരം നേട്ടത്തെ പുകഴ്ത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും. തെളിഞ്ഞ, മധുരമായ വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ഉപരിതലത്തില് ഒരു കൊച്ചു തുള്ളി എണ്ണ വന്നു വീണാല് പോലും ആ ഒരു തുള്ളി ആ പ്രതലം മുഴുവന് പരന്ന് നിറയും. ( അതെ സമയം ചെളി നിറഞ്ഞ വൃത്തികെട്ട വെള്ളത്തില് എണ്ണത്തുള്ളി വീണാല് അത് പടരുകയില്ല എന്ന് ഓര്ക്കണം)
ഈ ശ്ലോകങ്ങള് മഹാഭാരതത്തില് നിന്നാണ്. ഇവ സാരസമുച്ചയം എന്ന കൃതിയിലും കാണുന്നു. സാരസമുച്ചയം മഹാഭാരതത്തില് നിന്നുള്ള സുഭാഷിതങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു സഞ്ചയം ആണ്. ഈ കൃതി ഇന്തോനേഷ്യയിലെ ബാലിയില് കണ്ടെടുത്തതായിരുന്നു. ബാലിനീസ് ഭാഷയില് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയതും ആണ്.
